Companion piece, Part 1, shows the first 8 minutes of the race including the dramatic "stand still" start.

The Escort was the Pole Position car.
Just imagine nascar with a standing start
That was a pretty tight track with lots of corners and short straights (lap times less than 1 minute) so it favored the smaller cars - on a longer course the Camaro would have had a better chance to use its horsepower advantage.

If you notice.. there was a Mustang on the track too.. the commentators noted it was a "5 litre" car like the Camaro.. so it was really a driver's course.

Loved the switch in tactics by the Escort driver from trying to out brake the Camaro into the last corner to dropping back and running up and by the Camoro on the last corner into the strait. Brilliant Stuff! Great piece of racing by all the cars. Bias plys had their merits.
Excellent! Thank's
The Vaux-driver is the late, great Gerry Marshall.....a hard-living, hard-drinking (but also beloved) British saloon racer.
He was famous for driving "The Old Nail"......a very fire-breathing Firenza.
Marshall's official biography was called "Only Here For The Beer".

The Camaro just needed better brakes.
Watching the Brits drive the wheels off the Loti Cortinas and Ford Escorts has always been fun. Too bad those Escorts didn't come here.

it definatly didn't need a better driver. He was doing great with a car that was illsuited for such a course

Great racing. Obviously the Escort was faster in the turns, and the Camaro better on the straights, but the Escort was eating the Chevy alive under braking.
The Escort was clearly faster overall, but that last move from the Camaro driver was damn impressive...right until he spun out.
Physics, ain't it a bitch, that was a cool race

Its been a long time since I gave a damn who won a race even with a clip this old. I found myself shouting in my head, "Go, you bastard! Go!"

But a classic race video.
It would be fun to somehow duplicate this shootout pitting my 3530lb (with driver) manu-matic trans Camaro vs Alan's $500 race weight crapcan Escort or perhaps even our Ford Fiesta.
And Alan is the better driver.
I imagine it ends with. "Spin! Spin! Spin!"
This sums it up well. The 60s were the best years of BTCC.
That race is even in this video.
