The new GT500 has had a ton of work done, it's far, far ahead of the old car.

$55k is a lot of scratch - too bad - I was hoping teens could afford a 650HP Mustang so the junkyard would fill with awesome swap potential.

I'm wondering if the total cost of ownership wouldn't be that bad... I mean these horsepower wars can't last forever. Once Ford goes lightweight and puts an ecoboost 4 in the mustang (which, btw, I'm not saying is a bad thing), I would guess there will still be demand for the monster V8's.

So while $55K is a lot, because of it's collector status it might not depreciate as much as say, buying a run-of-the-mill GT and throwing on a ton of aftermarket parts.

My only SVT vehicle was a Lightning which I bought right before they stopped making them. I ended up selling it for nearly what I paid.

I hope it takes attention away from "lesser" Mustangs so that I can pick up a Boss 302 with the Laguna Seca track pack languishing on a dealer lot for a song.

I wish that package was available independent of the hideous color combination. I did a "Build your own" at F.com and it is really only available in black with red stripes and red wheels. You can't separate the mechanicals from the eye candy.

There are plenty of people with money that shouldn't be behind the wheel of these that will wreck them I'm sure.

pft..if going 200 is all you want check into a speed limiter disabled 'Busa or ZX-14. Lots cheaper still. The '99 'Busa is the only factory one w/o the electronic nanny.

I think the new S1000 BMW is close to 200 as well.

All will get there a whole hell of a lot quicker than this car

I know my GM at my dealership wasn't marking up the BOSS 302's at all. May be able to do that for my friends on the GT500... If any of ya'll are interested...

The 2013 Laguna Seca is a Black/Black only scheme now, the Red is gone.

As much as I love the Laguna, I'd rather have the regular Boss 302 (in any color) with the Torsen + Recaro package. You can buy the rear seat delete and front splitter from the LS from Ford Racing.

Agreed. While this GT500 is absolutely incredible for the money, I'd never be capable of coming anywhere near exploiting the car's limitations, i see this car more as being a stoplight to stoplight street stomper capable of insane highway rolls. In the hands of the elite, I imagine it is very capable on a track.

Not that I can afford either, but if I could buy one or the other new, I think I'd enjoy a Boss + Torsen + Recaro setup far more. It's still a LOT of car and power. I'd leave the backseat so I could keep the car seat in it and call it my summer DD :)

Toyota of deerfield beach just put their 07 on for $39.9K... he left me a message yesterday.. looking around the net there are more then a few. try this site...I found it useful www.google.com

So how many miles on this car? Is it new? If not, it's irrelevant.

New / Used doesn't matter. When your at the track and one passes you is that going to be the excuse?... Well I got passed by a used car thats cheaper and faster, so it's ok to be slow.....

The Mustang fanbois in high school ruined it for me. Bubba and his "fast" 5.0h GT that ran high 15's was annoying. Then again, I've become a Corvette Douche in my old age.

All cars have a stereotype. The older I get the more I don't care.

In fact, what I want is to just drive and not attract attention. If they put these drivetrains and suspension in a Focus wagon body I would buy that instead (even at the same $40K+ price). "Just a stang" for me is about world-class performance that still blends in to the parking lot.

Regarding new stang vs 5 year old vette - if all you want is track performance per dollar I agree it is tough to beat a used vette. However at this point in my life I need a back seat for the toddlers and I don't have time for a used car search or lots of tuning and repair on my DD.

My friend has a '11 with the aluminum block. WAY different than the old '03 Cobras. They are quite fun.

I have the '06, but for a daily driver, I would LOVE the GT500. It would be a very fun DD and sometime track car. I would want the 500 over a Z06 too.

It has a lot to do with the value of a car. That IS what you were comparing, after all. Oh, and BTW, a 650hp Mustang is anything but slow.
