You asked for it and you got it...
$2017 Challenge Pickup Truck Sub-Class.

Overwhelming support has driven a Sub-Class and special award for highest finishing "pickup".
There are no rule changes for this sub-class but expect that if you want to win this award you will be held to all the intended rules of The Challenge including the rules of safety. The answer of, "but that's how someone did it in 20XX" will not get you by.

Q: What is a Pickup?
A: Like porn; you know it when you see it.
Allowed will be things that started life as a pickup as well as things that did not but are now.

Other than an award, the Powers that Be from the magazine have stated they will take a hands off approach to the class. The only answer you will get from them will be, "does it fit within the current rules of The Challenge?"
All other questions should be directed to the board.

Gentleman. Start your builds!!!!!!!

I have a 3/4 dropped c1500 with a 454 and 5 speed, 9" ford, giant sway bars, 275's all around, and a bench seat.

Show me at least 4 other trucks and i will bring it, literally and figuratively

Easy button

Also, as mentioned at our banquet table, any aristocrat class car can be a pickup truck with proper sawzall application.

Thr SCCA rollover rule will be applied the same as it was for the minivans.

Does a Dajiban dodge van fit in the truck class (truck chassis)? Or is a bed required to fit the class?

I immediately thought the Minivans could also be eligble if the owners are willing to cut them up.

A Dajiban is welcome to The Challenge.
Will the casual observer recognize your Dajiban as a pickup? If not, then alter the Dajiban so they will.

To the casual observer, this is a pickup:

I might even go as far as to say that a casual observer could recognize this as a Porsche 911.
But note: that VW bus as it sits would not meet all the intended rules of The Challenge so other alterations would be needed.
The picture of a safe vehicle or the appearance of saftey should not be accepted as being safe.

I'd say any ANYTHING could be!

We had a pickup Miata this year that I believe would count.

Down at the very bottom of the page there are some icons and one of them is a heart (which means favorite)
By clicking that heart this thread will go into your Watchlist.

To retrieve your Watchlist threads, go to the grey drop-down box on every page titled "Jump To..." The last choice under Jump To is "Your Watchlist" That will get you back to your favorites at any time and allow for you to easily refer back to this thread.

Huh. That's a good lesson. Never knew what the heart is, and never tried it because it is buried among social media icons, and I don't use social media.

Maybe we need a "How to".

Might I suggest closing a loop hole and requiring that they remain a "pickup" during the autocross and drags?

I'm already thinking about a 2002 Infiniti Crew Cab Ute with no sawzall action.

I wonder who'll be first to arrive with one painted in camo, complete with a 50-cal mounted in the bed. Extra points for appropriate outfits - or perhaps I have my events mixed up...

Shoot. Sold my CRX "pickup" a few years ago...

Looks like this will be an exciting and competitive -even overall- class from the numerous comments in less than three hours.

Yeah but unless it rounded the track with 8-10 dudes in the bed of the truck without helmets or restraints, that doesn't count.

Ian and I had about a 15 hour drive home yesterday and used it almost exclusively to talk about possible truck builds.
