No automatic temperature control here. Although my 1985 MR2 did have that, without a touchscreen in sight ;)

Those all sound like options that you enjoy, all of you, and that's great. (Seriously) But if Papa Johns will sell me a no sauce no cheese pizza, why can't Ford sell me a no infotainment key ignition Bronco? Or, at the very least, disconnect it from the multitude of other computers so that I can yank it out without causing problems. They did something similar with the old Highway Patrol Mustangs.
In all seriousness, I can see the writing on the wall and it says that if I want a car to survive a modern crash then I have to take whatever they load it down with as the cost of driving something safer.
I like a key, on a ring, because I grab it and go. Or toss it to someone. This is a lost cause but all I want is a set of keys like the ones that still work for my '89 Mustang. Not gonna happen but there it is.
I just bought 2020 Jeep Gladiatior BASE model. I find the combination of dials and buttons for functions I may use while driving to be helpful. The HVAC controls are 3 rotary dials that are simple and easy to operate immediately. I know they are all connected to the same CANBUS system, but I would not like to have to navigate thru a touch screen menu to adjust my A/C. The touchscreen interface controls the radio and other functions. It works ok, but sometimes lags while the computer thinks about whatever. Honestly it's kind of annoying but I put up with it because I like the other features. It's a give and take.
My wife has a 2016 Mazda6 Grand Touring. Once again a good combination of buttons and dials along with a screen. Although the screen is 1000 times more annoying because you have to use the knob on the console to navigate it. It's literally dangerous to use while the car is in motion.
Even "glass" aircraft cockpits don't replace all the buttons and dials. For a good human interface I think a mix of input devices is best. After all we have a keyboard and a mouse dont we?
