So I've got a set of 215/45 17's mounted on a set of cheap 17" wheels on my CSX. Since the CSX is down for the time being (and I'd like to move back to 15's with it anyway) I was looking at using the tires on another project.
To that end I scrounged up a set of 8.5" wide 17" wheels in the appropriate bolt pattern. Now my concern is whether the 215's would fit on these new wheels?
I found the following pictures on tyrestretch.com, which makes my heart sink a bit as I don't want to be involved in the tire stretching "movement"

So I ask the knowledgeable folks here whether this would be a good idea or should I bag it and get a different set of wheels or tires?
It'll be fine. Slight stretch but nothing crazy. You won't be accepted by any of the stance bros.
That's what I thought as well. Just wanted to make sure. :)
The nice part is that it would free up a set of wheels for the Wife's Highlander (if she likes them) since her car is due for new tires fairly soon.
:)
FWIW: 215mm = 8.5"
Not all 215/45R17s are created equal, but you should be fine. Actually it will probably improve the tire's handling ability a bit to go on those wider rims. It seems like most tire manufacturers recommend a 7"-8" wide wheel for that size tire.
I just got that size tires to go on 17"x7.5" wheels. The unmounted Sumitomos measured a bit under 8" for their molded size. I probably would've gone with 235/40R17s if I had 8.5" wide rims.
heyyyyy those dont look like csx wheels
Heh, here's the wheels I want to put back on it:

Here's the wheels that I picked up:

I don't have a pic of the wheels currently on the CSX though.
