David just posted over on Classic Motorsports about a Datsun 240Z that just sold for $310,000.
What are your thoughts?

This is when the die-cast model becomes more exciting than the real thing, because I'll see more action from it than a real one.
Beautiful cars though.
I should have never got rid of my old one 30 years ago...... could buy a lot of restoration parts and still make a profit
Unreal. Went up by $110k in the final 13 minutes. These cars are cool, but I'm still shocked at that.
Was there not a comment here a while ago, which I think I agreed with, that all the survivor cars are green?
Absurd money, even for a unicorn, in a horrible color, with a horrible interior color, with the original horrible wheel covers. I hope the new owner enjoys it.
No crazier than that Bullit mustang selling for 3.7 Million(but then I just don't see how actors having driven a car add any value to the car itself, some people pay for that nonsense though)
I think I should have kept mine, wow. Having owned and raced them, they are great cars, but nothing about them screams let's pay that much. That is a crazy price for a 240.

You’ll guys will flame me but I still say it’s a well executed fake. No way McQueen wrote and asked to buy it back. It doesn’t make sense. I don’t care what the “documents” say. They can make documents that say anything. Remember Hitler’s diaries about 20 or so years ago? They fooled a lot of “experts”.
I've got '72 parts I can't rid of. I'm going to tell this guy his investment just went up.
Three seat backs, one base, and a great set of rails.

What a dick!
I'd tell him that if he comes near my garbage I'll call the cops for trespassing and suspected identity theft.
It's an anomaly, you can still buy 240Zs at regular guy prices. They're not $3500 anymore but they're also not $100,000. Anyone who thinks this is the new norm ought to do more research because it's not.

Is that a fact or conjecture? Where did he buy it?

The original link was posted in the comments, and acknowledged by the seller.
edit: here's the original ad.
I just saw this and came here to post it myself.
I suspect that L24 engines are going to become hard to come by in the near future. Pity, since it would not hurt to have a spare L24 around for my Datsun replica in case something catastrophic happened to the current one.

I would have told him they will be furiously burnt by then.
I tried to buy an original owner 71 maybe 20 years ago on a cold call. It was a graduation gift from her father and She wanted her kids to drive it. They wanted no part of it and if I had pushed it, I might have been able to close the deal. A few months later the car disappeared from the carport never to be seen again.
