So, the check engine light is now on in SWMBO's Z. Code is P0327 - knock sensor. Reading online it looks like it is more frequently the harness. Figure I should go ahead and do both while I'm in there.
Checked Courtesy Nissan and the sensor is $230!!! Yikes. The harness is apparently a single wire about 2 feet long with a connector on each end and is $80. So my question is, should I go with the NAPA sensor & harness for $90 or is there a reason to spend $200 more for OEM?
Only reason to use aftermarket electronic parts is if you enjoy doing things twice.
Find somebody who sells Beck Arnley and talk them into opening the box. If its an OE part, ok. Otherwise, buy OE.
I did this job on my '04 G35. Get the upgraded harness from Z1 Motorsports. After you compare their upgraded harness to the piece of junk that Nissan put in you'll understand why. Use an OEM knock sensor. If I recall, I got the sensor from them too, it was much cheaper than the local dealer wanted. This job is not terrible, but it would be terrible to do it more than once. Make sure you torque the new sensor EXACTLY right.
