I am swapping a 5.3 vortec into my 1994 BMW 530i. What is the best BUDGET 5 speed I should use?
I am using a z32 nissan 300zx manual transmission behind my 4.8, G-Force makes adapter plate/flywheel to go from the LS to the nissan transmission. the car isnt running yet but the kit is pretty nice and several people have used it with good results. the kit is $600, if you look around enough you can find a trans for $100-$200. The nissan trans is also known to hold up to power levels similar to a t56. the nissan trans has to be from an NA car but the flywheel has provisions for either an NA or turbo clutch.
Reading that with much interest, edizzle.
The kit seems expensive, but it looks like for just over $1000 all in a person could do that swap. Seems better than the $2500 I have in my t56 swap.

and shaftmaster's makes driveshafts for z32's so you can get the slip yoke for the back of the trans with whatever shaft length and diff end you need.

I used Brett Collins 1uz to 240sx adapter kit before. Good quality but can be pricy depending on what you want. The amazing thing about the lsx to z32 trans is the size of the z32 trans. It's way smaller than the t56 or cd009 from the z33.
Agreed, this is a really interesting development. I'm definitely going to be checking out all the boneyards for manual Z32's.
