So my saga of 86 questions continues. What do we like for fluids? The FR-S coming up on a major service in the spring. I'm hoping to exploit any possible Black Friday deals, if possible.

I'm changing the diff, trans (manual) and brake fluid.

Diff & Trans: Motul Gear300

Brake fluid: I use Pentosin DOT4 LV, for strictly street use it's not too important. If you go with a high-temp fluid make sure it's low-viscosity so the ABS will work well.

Edit: One bit of preventative maintenance you might want to do is get the left inner CV repacked with Redline CV-2. This is the CV that sits close to the exhaust.

Don't forget a high-quality blinker fluid

Oh god.  There are at least a billion threads on this.  I think I went with redline mt90.  Only because I wanted to Amazon it the same time I did fluid for my Kia (mt75 iirc)

I was just discussing with someone the other day about how sensitive some cars are to trans fluid like this one and on the opposite end of the spectrum there are cars like the Saturns I used to play with where the criteria for acceptable fluid was "it's kind of a liquid"

Mine has Motul oils all around- 300v in the engine, Gear300 in the trans/diff.  For coolant I just use the blue Zerex stuff. Brake fluid is whatever high temp flavor is on sale.

In reply to ProDarwin :

It's funny you mention Saturns, because it reminds me of a situation when I was a dealer tech.  I got to tear down and inspect a Saturn transmission that wasn't shifting right because the guy who worked on it got coolant into the trans.  Not enough to make mayonnaise.

It's amazing how notchy and horrible it felt.  I saw nothing wrong inside, no chunks of anything, so cleaned everything up, reassembled, and it was fine.

Still annoyed that I had to take it apart to verify nothing was wrong inside.

In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :

I once reassembled one after welding the diff pin and didn't torque the bolts down correctly.  All the fluid drained out and apparently I drove it quite a while with no fluid in it lol.  It started to make a whining noise but still shifted fine.  I tightened stuff down and filled it back up and just swapped the trans when I pulled the engine for whatever reason I can't remember.
