Yes and Yes. Actor's off screen actions aside, The van is still cool and I thought the movie was funny.

I'm not a big fan of them but it's someone's hobby and it saves some cool old sheet metal that someone else may have scrapped. I also don't attend most car shows because I'm tired of first gen camaro's, mustang's, tri fives and every other show queen that has a 1500hp small block that runs 7 second quarter miles with no cage or safety equipment.....
I'd take this movie car. Honestly though. I'm just sick of the 5-6 same ones you see all of the time. Don't worry, I also feel the same way about Tri 5's, Corvettes, Camaro, and mustangs. Having gone to shows all of the time with my dad, you can only see so many before you are like ehhh....next.
I own a S197 Mustang and live about 30 minutes from the drag strip where American Muscle is having their ginormous show today. And I'm not going because, as much as I absolutely love my Mustang, looking at several hundred of them with questionable customizations does nothing for me. It is just complete overload.
I like the unusual when I go to car shows. Give me a Checker Marathon or a preserved Pinto any day over a checkbook restoration of a 60s muscle car.
A lot of the movie cars posted in here would not be immediately recognizable by most people as being a "movie car" even if they had seen the movie.
ddavidv said:So after that little rant...I like a well done movie car replica, particularly if it is more obscure. This car was at Ford Carlisle one year. I have mad respect for the owner who put together a movie car replica of a generally dowdy, ugly car that no one would ever restore and painstakingly replicated it.
White LIghtning with Burt Reynolds, 1973. The editing of the movie wasn't always very careful so in some shots you could see it was an automatic on the column instead of a four on the floor. I believe 1969 was the last year for a four speed in full size Fords, and they dropped manual transmissions altogether after 1971.
Some of you people :whatdoyoumeanyoupeople?.jpg: take things wayyyyyyy too serious. If you get offended because someone didn't spend thousands of dollars to be up to your standards, you really need to reevaluate your life.
I have been thinking about this and there are a few movie cars I would totally build. Just not the same ones you see over and over.
The Ford LTD from "Suburbia"
The 4 door 64 Falcon from "Better off dead"
A 64 Malibu Crew cab with really bright lights in the trunk
And the Herkimer Battle Jitney
So, I guess I am redacting my earlier statement and changing it to "It depends on the movie and the car"
And maybe Clint Howard's Barracuda from the Wraith

Clint actually drove the equally cool GMC pickup.

People constantly tell me I need to turn the hearse into the ghostbusters car. It's quite annoying as it's a 95 so it's nothing like the original except it's a hearse. I usually humor them with a "haha, yea" to end the conversation.
You can tell the real car people by who comes over to actually look over the car. I'll stick around and open up all the doors and show them all the cool features I never knew hearses had until I bought one. One guy came over with his two kids as I was getting my fishing stuff out of the back at a local park earlier this summer. I let the kids climb around in the back and sit in the drivers seat. I'm not a big fan of the attention it gets from everyday people, especially when I'm just trying to get home, but when kids freak out when they see it it really makes my day. I hope I've sparked some interest in the car hobby for them.
There's a Herbie the Love Bug just down the road from me. I mean, if you are going to have an old Beetle, why not? It looks racier, even if you have no idea who Herbie was.
KITT I don't get, that was the worst era Trans Am ever, with like what, 85hp? No thanks.
In fact, I did go for a Bond Car. This is me with my old DB5. Sold the car, sold that awful suit, kept the PPK.
