Just a note. I've done all three methods of towing behind a motorhome, trailers. dollies, and tow bars. By far the easiest to use is the tow bar set up. Just minutes to hook or un-hook. And no trailer to have to figure out what to do with at campgrounds. Especially campgrounds that have size limitations. Just saying.
YMMV
Mitsubishi Legnum VR-4? Basically a Galant VR-4 wagon
Edit: Looks like this might be a smidge over your max length

I don't think you'll be able to tow a race car and a runabout simultaneously with a tow bar...

This is specifically about something to roll in under the racecar in a small stacker trailer. We already flat tow our Jeep Grand Cherokee, and have that all figured out.

Yup, the 'full-size' JDM wagons are a bit too long.

That Chariot Resort Runner is exactly the kind of weirdness I was hoping for.
The Figaro misses the mark a bit, and are probably too small.

Looking for weird? Isuzu Vehicross would work. Assuming you can find one.

Interesting, but surprisingly porky at 3700lbs...
How big are the dogs? Will they fit under the glass bubble of this gullwing Toyota? Generally a small Kei sized car with "stop and look" styling.

Holy cow, I never realized it was that hefty!

That Probox is interesting, but way to new for importing.
apparently the precursor to the Probox was the Caldina wagon, there's one version that looks pretty similar to the Corolla wagon we got here. But in '97, they apparently got a ST215 and GT-T version:
which seems to be something like a "Japan Celica GT-Four wagon"
dunno how hard it is to find a '97 to be able to import, though... especially since those motors apparently had some longevity issues.
1997 Mitsubishi RVR Hyper Sports Gear R is just now legal for import. If I didn't just pick up a Legnum VR-4 I'd be looking for one of these.
If an E30 Touring costs too much, how about an E36 318ti?

Excellent! The Caldina and RVR are definitely going on the list, though I expect those would be pretty difficult to find.

And I can think of a lovely M3 swapped 318ti that'll be for sale later this month!
Suzuki Samurai; you can take it anywhere! Literally anywhere! Jeeps get embarrassed by them because they are so small and capable. They are also Toyota Hilux tough and reliable. They are so unique and cool everyone loves them or is at least curious about them.

Just to close this out... after many hours of internet searching, and a few unsuccessful bidding adventures... the winner is:
An E36 Touring!
Thanks to all that gave input... there were some really cool ideas in there!
In reply to Rodan :
The RVRs are over your length requirement at 172-174" depending on the spare tire setup.
The 318TI gets you closer at 165"
But what I think the winner would be is a 88-91 Civic SI. 157" long.
