Been trying to register over there for some time but I never get the confirmation email to complete the process. I was hoping maybe someone was a member there and could contact an admin or something.
Trying to get to some of the tech articles but can't do that without a login.
Alternatively if anyone has a good writeup on doing the timing chain guides and tensioners and can share it I would appreciate it. The CV sport has started making noise...not something I wanted to be doing on a "throw away" car but I need it to get through the winter and out to Vegas next year.
There was an excellent article in CarCraft on this exact thing. I want to say 2010 or 2011. Just search for crown vic of 4.6.

Thanks will do. I know there's an article on Crownvic.net about shortcuts to just do the guides and tensioners and Im all about the shortcuts at the moment since I dont have a garage bay to put it in and even less time to work on it. This might actually get farmed out if I cant find time to do it.
Anyone near NJ know how to do it and wanna make a few bux?
sent my buddy a link who is a mod over there. his username on their forum is a_d_a_m and he had to do the guides and tensioners on his marquis last year or so. we ran in the same local circle when i had my p71.

Thanks Pat! I registered under my usual user name. I've tried it a few times now, I just never get the email to confirm :(
I am over there. Sometimes it takes forever to get through registration. I will see if I can contact someone also.

Ahh, I found that one but the article on cv.net is the shortcut to doing just the guides and tensioners while removing as little as possible. 2-3 hour job. If I did a full rebuild on this motor I'd have to pop it in the Colony Park (seriously considering the swap at some point, it does have nice power)
Ah... I .pdf'd it for you. I can email it to you.

Thought I'd circle back around on this and first thank Hntsvl_E30 for sending me that article off crownvic.net. I'm still unable to get registered there.
Finally we've thawed out and I had a free weekend so I did this job and I though I'd add some notes here in case some random soul is searching for info on this some day and stumbles across this thread.
First off, the online writeup makes this sound a lot worse than it actually is. I started at 10 and finished at 5, but there was a 2 hour lunch break in there and a trip to the store for RTV. All told I probably had 5 hours in the job and that includes cleaning an painting everything and putting the front cover back on then finding the crank trigger wheel...DOH, so I did that part twice.
Every writeup I see complains about removing the power steering pump, its 4 bolts 3 are accessible with a ratchet one is not. FFS, do yourself a favor, if you dont own a 10mm ratcheting wrench with a swivel end, then buy one. What everyone described as a 20 minute job took 5.
The writeup says remove the 2 front valve cover bolts. Everyone else says you have to at least loosen the others. I say they are wusses. You just need to remove the front tow then to break the seal with the front cover without damaging the valve cover gasket use some fishing line (or dental floss) easy peasy. Putting it back on you need to gently pry up while working the front cover under the valve cover and pay close attention that the valve cover gasket doesn't roll under on you but its very doable.
And now some carnage.
Just a little worn down
When the chain cuts through the adjusters you know you have an issue.
Both sides were like this. This car has 113k on it and despite being a corroded rusty mess from being a northeast car the internals of the motor were very clean so it appears to have been well cared for. Just a crappy design on the tensioners.

My experience with the Box community on crownvic.net is that they were very unwelcoming to anything different that a 5.0 and P71 suspension.
When I had my Box coupe they chastised me for talking about putting a Mark VIII drivetrain in it and bagging it so I could drop it. After that I left and never came back.
yep, very set in their ways on a lot of the Panther forums not just CV.net. Useful tech info if you dig for it though.
Somehow I found some pics of my old marquis on a Marauder forum (I wasnt a member) when I had cobra wheels on it, someone said I had upgraded the suspension on it quite a bit, and several others then complained that I was wasting my money on the car, its "just a grand marquis".
I had a LOL. The suspension was stock I just had the wheels and a rear swaybar on it. Most parts I did throw on it to play with I bought used and ended up selling for the same price I paid for them when I took them off.
