I friend of mine is selling a 1993 MR2, manual, and a turbo.  It is a one owner with 10,460 miles, no accidents, all stock, absolutely no mods. I told him to list it on BAT but he wants to try and sell locally first. I don't know if he get his $30k. I honestly don't know what something like this would go for. I mean I'm not a MR2 guy. So....

What does the Hive think?  $30k seem realistic?

1-2 years ago, I would have said yes.  (I was looking.)  I feel like the market's cooled down on cars in general?  At least a bit.

Maybe on BaT but almost certainly not over $20k locally, assuming "local" is somewhere ordinary.

That looks like a great car.  I think his price is higher than the market will bear though.

Not sure how I feel about a 30 year old car that has been driven less than 350 miles per year...

To drive?  Or to preserve?  At some point you have to decide.  This car might go either direction.

I think, in general, you would have a hard time finding people on this board that are into storing/preserving cars

Edit: unless its "a project I haven't had time for yet."

Here to say that's just a beautiful car.  Glad it's still stock and I hope he gets a strong offer.

I don't know the market for these, but I can't imagine there are too many "comps" out there in such pristine condition.

I don't think a 1993 MR2 was ever a car that should have been "preserved".  It's not a Ferrari.

But that's not what I meant. I meant that a car that has been driven less than 350 miles per year for over 30 years could be good, or bad. Not much wear and tear, but sitting idly is not good for cars either. Could be good, could be bad.

In reply to bludroptop :

I don't care if people want to pursue conservation or not. Folks are welcome to do whatever they want.

I just know that cars that sit for extended periods can have problems. "Never being used" may make the car more valuable, or it may mean it needs a lot of work to bring it up to par again.

It's red, it's a turbo, its manual, its completely unmolested, and its a '93 which has some updates from first years of '91 and '92, most namely 15" wheels vs 14" wheels.

No, I don't think $30k is out of bounds.  I feel like BaT could pull that kind of price.  This is a fine example of an iconic car.

In 1993 dollars, this was a $25k car.  The internet says that 1993's $25k = 2024's $54k

TBH it sounds exactly like the sort of thing BAT gets all wound up about. An 11k one sold for $47,500 this spring.

I'd probably pay to have the paint corrected before selling. You can see the swirl marks on your buddy's.

In reply to theruleslawyer :

There were 4 bidders that placed bids over $30k in that auction, and only one of them got the car, which means there's at least three potential buyers.

BAT is absolutely the place to get top dollar for that car.  Investing in a good professional detail and professional pics would be a wise choice.

OMG, hell yeah I'd pay $30k for it!  If I get my Jeep and Boxster sold, maybe my Vette too, I'd absolutely be a buyer.  He should be able to get sell it.

I'm in Knoxville, so regular town. There was a big Cars and Coffee event this weekend hosted by the local Porsche, Audi, Acura, Infiniti, Maserati, etc. dealer.  He took it over and had some interest. I think he is going to see if he can list it on BAT. I suggested a detail and professional photos and he liked those ideas.

Thanks everyone.

Judging solely on the photos, I'd say the condition is pretty good. Bonus points for low miles.

If it helps, here's what Hagerty offers as far as values:
