Of course one of the prettiest is also my favourite. The Fiat Abarth 1300 OT

And just to give you an idea how small this car is:

I will start with the XJ13

You broke your own rule on the very first post!  While stunning, the XJ-13 never raced.  It was designed for LeMans, but the rules changed, making it obsolete.  The orignial was crashed hard, but rebuilt IIRC.  I've seen it driven on the street--- as well as a few replicas.  One of the prettiest cars ever IMHO......but never a race car!

I nominate the Zakspeed Europa

Mostly because it's impressive considering the ugly duckling they started with.

The Mazda's not really a race car, but when I think "exotic beauty" it's at the head of the list. Also, don't forget old Mercedes racers:

In reply to Joe Gearin :

Or, it was always a race car, that the race series changed the rules before it finished development.  I never said it had to have competed or even competed successfully, just be a track car.

In reply to Kreb :

The Furai was based on the Courage Competition C65 Le Mans Prototype.  I think it is more skirting the rules than my XJ13.

If we're going offroad, Ivan Stewart's Toyota is always at the top of my list.

I'm very excited about the Ivan Stewart rep that I'm building with irs and a twin turbo ls. It's going to be Wicked.

I'll say Audi R8, (original one), not only for looks but boy was it rugged!! To win one must finish.

Some excellent choices - I was going to nominate the 250 GT Ferrari, but David beat me to it.

Aston DBR1 made it, and Lous 23B, although I'd have preferred the Lotus 11 for looks,

And finally someone rememberd the D type and C type Jags.

Somehow a bunch of odd transformer toys made it in as well - need a warped aesthetic sense to think some of those are among the best looking races cars ever!

I'll add:

Shelby run Toyota 2000 GT

BMW Z4MC looks pretty spiffy

Here's one I used to race against but let's see if anyone knows what it is

Factory built MG EX 186

My friend's 1933 Alfa 6C 1750 doesn't look like a race car since the recent restoration, but it qualiifes as it got a class win and a sixth place overall in the 1935 Le Mans race.

PS - the Lancia Stratos looks like a hyperthyroid ferret but while I wouldn't have included it in a a group of the best looking race cars, I still love it!

A hint on the unamed car - they only made 3 of them.
