So spacecadet related elsewhere that in the post-race interview it was disclosed that the third place Sonic was on a junkyard engine swapped in after the first motor popped during qualifying. That seems right up this thread's/forum's alley.
In reply to sleepyhead the buffalo :
Where's the info about the Sonic engine change? Tony R. could possibly have finished even better with a "good" engine.

It's in the post-race interview that was on the livestream. It'll probably be a couple weeks/month, and then the runoff races will be chopped up and posted on the SCCA website for viewing; but I'll try to remember to post the link here.
I dunno if there necessarily have been much more performance available. iirc, There's no ECU tuning allowed, the 'allowed engine tweaks' are even more minimal than SpecMiata, and the Sonic's already run a pretty good sized restrictor, since they're 1.8L compared to 1.5-1.6 liter engines they're competing against. I think the comment Roma made was to the effect of "B-Spec is one of the few places where you can grab a junkyard engine, and have a chance to be on the podium".

dont forget having to run restrictor plates.

....Was anyone else cringing that Richard was wearing a ring while working on the car?
Wheels and ride height make all the difference.
10 out of 10. Would daily. I miss poverty spec hatchbacks. Darned SUV and monster truck obsessed 'merica.

Endurance racing isn't real racing??

Quoted for absolute truth. Europeans think automatic transmissions are for disabled people.
Also posted today: "Project Binky episode 33 will follow soon after the conclusion of our Bargain Racement series in November." Yay!
Argh.... Grindrod sounds very familiar but I can't place the name.

Ian Grindrod. Co-driver, not driver. Co-drove many events for Jimmy McRae and Malcolm Wilson amongst others.

Yup, nuts isn't it. Great watching cars come up 'the mountain'.

Not really, but I cringed pretty hard when he hammered the axle nuts on with an impact wrench.

It's even better when you're in the car .
Well, once the fog lifted - we actually only got 2/3rds of the day I went there because the part around the mountain was in dense fog.

They talked about it. Four ugga-duggas.
The rear brace thingy counts as a stabilizer bar, if I were doing scrutineering. It is a device installed to increase roll stiffness, ergo stabilizer (or even stabiliser) bar. I can cite references to non tubular stabilizers as well.
When I had my A2 Golf, I did the thing with a 3x24x.125 plate welded into the beam. (roughly 75x600x3 if you are using measurements based on an 18th century French estimation of a quarter of the world's circumpolar perimeter instead of an 8th century French estimation of a king's anatomy) It made the rear roll stiffness hilariously stiff, on a chassis that already lifted a rear wheel under cornering, so it was largely redundant. I could pick up an inside rear by jerking the steering smartly while at walking speed. Fun car when you are 29 going on 15.
