When replacing the head gasket on a BMW m44 should you use any sealant on the rubber gaskets between the head and the timing chain covers? I changed mine and didn't use any, and now i have a bit of smoke. I am not sure if one just shifted or what..

you mean the profile gasket between the upper and lower timing case? If so, it's recommended to put sealant at the part where they "meet" at the ends to stop leaks.

That said, not doing that shouldn't cause smoke, it should just cause some oil leak on the sides of the timing case (pretty common on M42/M44s).

Otherwise, I can't think of any other "rubber gaskets"....unless the M44 has something the M42 does (IIRC they just have a different timing guide setup and a slightly modified case)
