Finalizing the deal on a 2018 FoRS in Colorado. Need to have it hauled to Georgia. Obviously the open hauler is way cheaper, but my brother recently had one shipped from out west that ended up getting oil puked all over it from the car above it.
Thoughts?
I had my race car shipped from Michigan to Nevada in an enclosed trailer but my car was on the upper deck; I don't think an enclosed versus open will prevent the issue your brother had.
How much cheaper are we talking?

I also had some oil on the roof of the new Benzo when it arrived from CA as there was a diesel w123 above it. A decent wash with some simple green and it was clean. If the same two cars were in the same positions inside a trailer it probably still would have happened, it was just a bit worse because of the rain they drove through. Either way, it is still getting washed and the cost difference more than pays for a pro detailing.
In reply to Tom1200 :
I wanna say like $500-$600
In reply to poopshovel again :
Just get Nonack to drive it home for you. There's plenty of rally-roads he can test it out on along the way.
For something that nice, my instinct is to go enclosed.
Are we sure that enclosed eliminates the risk of "being a bottom"?
In reply to John Welsh (Moderate Supporter) :
When I shipped a car via Interstate enclosed, I paid extra to have the car on top.
I also shipped a brand new car from California to Florida open and it came on the bottom. Full of dust but otherwise clean.
What's the cost of a pro detail, if it's $200-300 then you're only saving $300 tops.
My thought is see if you can specify the car on top with an open trailer.
I plan on having it detailed anyway. Seller installed a 3M clear-bra himself and it's bubbling, so I'm gonna have that removed/washed/waxed. Up top on open trailer seems like the ticket.
Thanks, dudes.
I've had at least 7-10 cars shipped to me. All but one were on an open trailer, including a Viper. Knock on wood, I've never had an issue with the car being anything more than dirty. I'm happy with open haulers.

I have had both services. Honestly I'd rather go open with a good driver than enclosed with a sloppy one. Enclosed was the only way to go for a roofless car, however.
Thanks y'all. I guess I'm just nervous. Would drive it back and make an adventure of it if not for the 'rona.
With airfare these days fly-n-drive has never been cheaper...
This weekend I'm picking up the MR2 I bought from a member here 3+ weeks ago... but hauling trailer there and bringing it back (~950 miles each way). Was originally planning to go open trailer... but MINIMUM price is at least $600 with undetermined pickup time because of bids and getting a driver to accept the price. Step it up to $800+ and will get a more determined shipping date... but that's $800+ I am not willing to spend on a inexpensive project car. Will be way cheaper and quicker for me to get it myself... would have done Fly-n-drive if car was in better suited condition for it.
