In the Datsun 1200 I vintage race I currently use a Group 51 Civic battery. Here in the Nevada desert batteries last between 3-5 years tops, said battery is now at 3 1/2 years so it's getting close.

I was  contemplating swapping the lawn tractor U1 battery from my Formula 500 (total loss ignition) and so, the bigger battery woul be good for it. I'm also need to add lead to the F500 so the extra weight isn't a big deal. I also have 2  UB18120 (18 amp hr) batteries form the F500.

The  U1 battery is 15lbs and 230CCA  and the UB18120s are 14-15lbs but may be marginal for cranking power.

Something like an Antigravity battery or similar would save 24lbs over the Group 51 and 13lbs over the U1. The $200 isn't a big deal but basically I'm lazy; I run the Datsun 5 to 7 times a year and I the summer (it's 114 out) the car sits for as much as 2 months without being started. I don't have the car on a battery maintainer. I simply charge up the battery and start the car.

There have been plenty of post about Lithium batteries on here but they don't seem to go into depth about how much neglect if any the lithium batteries will tolerate? I have one in my dual sport bike which sometimes may sit for 4-5 weeks at a time and it's been fine. Note the car does have a master kill switch.  So do I need to religiously keep the battery on a maintainer or can I let it sit as long as there is no draw? In general will they tolerate a abusive hack like me?

One of the attractions is not so much about the overall weight savings but the fact that I can leave the battery in the stock location for ease of  servicing while taking 24lbs of the right front corner.

Anything people who've used them can share is appreciated.

I had one for my Alfa.  Great battery- it had more than enough power to start it.

But I did not take care of it a few off seasons, and it was not happy- it died an early death.

If I were in your shoes, I would totally get another one, and also get a battery charger to keep it happy when not being used.  Worth the investment.

I have a Battery Tender LiPo on my LS1 Camaro. I've left it off the trickle charger for as long as 2 weeks and it was able to start the car.

Aren't battery chargers/tickle chargers specifically for lithium batteries required for lithium batteries?

From what I've read on here once they go below a certain voltage they're done hence the need for a tender. I'm just paranoid about stuff being plugged in and unattended, even know the freezer in the garage has been plugged in and running for the last 15 years.

They work well, but you NEED to get the balancer-chargers intended for the specific battery. Shorai makes some attractive options, but they die early deaths (>1 year) unless properly balanced on a regular basis.

Here is my experience regarding the above posts:

The battery in my Camaro went totally dead because the (non-lithium specific) tender I had it hooked to died and I didn't notice for weeks. Hooked it to a new lithium-specific tender and it charged back up just fine.
