I drove to Florida to pick up the van, it's not bad at all. I AM a bit closer, but hear me out, you ride over here on the bike on Friday. We head to Florida and pick up the BMW. Lots of options for how we do that. Then we load the bike in my truck and we drive it and the BMW back to your place. It's horribly inefficient, but I think it could work!
Or look for anything in Houston and I'll go check it out for you.

In reply to Nick (Bo) Comstock:
I would take Mazdeuce up on that and get the car from pimpm3.
I bet even with the two of you, you still get great mileage on the bike
Probably serious. We'd have to be able to be a bit flexible on weekends as I don't know exactly what weekends are free yet, but my wife is used to me doing stupid stuff. It'd be fine.
manual Volvo 240
There's also a BG chassis 323 for sale in Fort Worth for $1300, but it's overpriced by a few hundred dollars. I'd go $1000 tops on it.
also, remember for rallycross you need a factory hardtop on a convertible.

After seeing the crazy crap that guy dives into its probably safe to assume hes serious.
That toyota pickup has profit written all over it, assuming the frame isnt rusted. That is from the solid front axle era.
I just got the car yesterday, let me look it over real good so we are all on the same page. I paid for it tonight and I drove it from the auction area to the parking lot. Clutch felt good, it ran well and all windows worked. Paint and interior are in good shape. Tires looked decent.
I will try to get it on the lift this weekend and give it a full assessment.
If he's just going to rallycross locally with the group out of San Marcos he doesn't need a hard top. Regardless he did say no two seaters, and as a friend once said, four seat convertibles are for dictators and old women.

Just got a text back from the 323. 125K miles, no A/C, decent tires. I'm very interested in that one. Plus my wife says it's hideous which means it's a good one.
In reply to Nick (Bo) Comstock:
if you end up picking it up feel free to fire any questions my way.
87 thunderbird 2.3L turbo
and if your wife hates the 323, try a pinto on for size, shockingly clean
BG 323 is AMAZING at rallycross. Supurb balance in the dirt. Transmission tends to self disassemble.
In reply to mazdeuce:
they really are. I know Nick isn't looking for a project, but the 1.8L DOHC BP swap from either a escort GT or protege lx and G series gearbox addresses the issues with the F series box. The engines use the same motor mounts and there's a single wire to modify on the harness. It's the easiest engine swap you'll ever come across. That being said the F series tends to hold together without boost. There's tons of other items and GRM type mods that can be done as well, but we'll go down that rabbit hole as needed ;)

how about a classic?
In all seriousness, prices will go up in about a month so dont drag your feet too much.
This sounds like a job for a V6 Mustang.
In reply to Brett_Murphy:
I've talked so much E36 M3 about mustang guy that I'm sure someone would show up at my house and beat me with a rubber hose if I were to buy one. I have been looking at them though
I'm going to go look at the 323 this weekend if it hasn't sold by then.

Like the Pinto previously mentioned, I'm just not sure if I want to go that old. I've had plenty of old cars but they come with issues that I'm not sure I really want to deal with at the moment.
1989 Civic
Going to look at this tomorrow. What do I need to know. I know nothing of Honda.
In reply to Nick (Bo) Comstock:
Rust is the only thing that kills them and that looks incredibly clean. D15 motors love boost.
Besides rust and neglected timing belts taking out the motor everything is pretty cheap an easy on a Civic. That's a pretty good asking price for one in that condition, around here anyway.
D-series Hondas are worth almost nothing in TX.
EF has many discontinued parts, but my CRX survived a 60-MPH crash on a freeway.
EG and EK are progressively more refined. EG is the sweetest of sweet spots: within 150# of a comparable EF and feels like a modern car. The aerodynamic improvements make them faster despite the weight than a same-engined EG.
All the Civics, look for a picture to confirm the transmission
http://austin.craigslist.org/cto/5958332430.html Looks in good condition. These are good at rallycross.

I was going to offer up my Accord but that Civic is way cleaner.
Nothing on my local CL but a broken BMW, some Saturns, and other Honda's that aren't as cool as the red one, but I'd be glad to help you out if you found one over my way
