I need to do the rear tank on the idi and I'm getting mixed info on tanks. When I look them up on parts sites, they appear to be the same part but some guys say that they are different? Since I'm going new, why would they be different?

I think there was some funkiness with senders and filler necks but physically they are the same.

I was going to use a f26d tank on my 97 PSD and it's a bolt in after you hammer out the restriction in the filler neck.

Since it's a plow truck and I haven't got the time to go nuts on it, I'm trying to keep it simple. Plus it's under a 100 for a new one! If I had the time, I'd remove the bed and go nuts but......

It also sucks that I can't find a new sending unit, other than the over priced Ford one.

It's for a diesel and neither look correct. Gas ones are east and cheap. I don't have to replace it as the level gauge appears to be working fine but I'm afraid of how much rust damage may be there.

American tanks, the Sherman in particular, suffered a bit from their use of the more flammable gas, compared to the German's diesel.

Later Shemans made some improvements, notably wet storage of the ammo, but it's reputation stuck.

Thank you! I couldn't believe the thread had progressed that far without a single reference to those large, heavy vehicles with guns.

Wasn't there an issue with people putting bronco tanks in the idi and there was some coating inside that would clog things up.

Gasoline tanks are generally outfitted to deal with evaporative emissions. Diesel is a "heavy" fuel that doesn't really evaporate so their tanks are a lot simpler.

On the parts diagrams, I'm getting the same tank as gas, even though I'm specifying diesel.
