Was trawling the Bay of Flea this evening for some S2000 CR suspension and noticed that someone is selling a set of Nitron NTR coilovers for an S2k.

I have some vague recollection that they're supposed to be decent kit, but nothing more. Anybody got any experience with them?

More importantly, does anybody know if they are rebuildable?

The big question for me is if these are good enough for me to overlook the fact that they'd move me from Sport to Tuner in SCCA Time Trials classification. Not that that matters that much, I'll just end up being even further back in the field .

Wow, have I finally found a topic where the bretheren has no opinion? *Proud*

We have a set on the FM Westfield. They were an optional upgrade. That's about all I can say about them, as I don't think I did any comparative testing.

Thanks Keith - sounds like they're at least good enough then for you to not replace them with any of the other options at your disposal then?

I guess I should find out if they're rebuildable - they fulfill my requirement for used parts pricing in the sense that they're less than half of how much they cost new, but that's not super useful if they immediately need a rebuild.

On a Westfield, the options at my disposal are far less varied :) That car never got any real chassis tuning. They're a UK brand like Spax that gets used in UK specific applications like Sevens and Minis and the such. The Brits - as you very well know - do prefer their homegrown brands so it's tough to get good comparisons to other options.

Indeed, they do like their cottage industries over there.

I always found it amusing how they argue about how that funny foreign suspension (especially from Japan) doesn't work on their special roads. If they put half the time they argue about that into fixing the actual roads the foreign suspension would probably work much better on account of far fewer potholes .

I know the Lotus Elige chassis guys hold them in high regard. That's about the extent of my experience.

Good point, that's why the name sounded familiar. They were raving about Nitrons back when I had my Elise S1 in the UK.

Well, contacted the seller on eBay and asked him to confirm that all the adjusters on the shocks work and that they aren't leaking.

Given that most of their listing seems to be dedicated to put people off from buying from them, I'm not holding my breath for a quick response.

And don't you know it, they responded within a few minutes.

Now it's time to check if I can get the adjustment spanners separately as they're missing from the coilovers.

Are they valved for a spring rate that you can use for the tires you intend to run and conditions (street vs race)?

Unless someone's had the revalved, yes. They're Nitron's dual purpose street/track coilovers with what looks like halfway decent spring rates.

Right now the issue is getting confirmation if I can buy the height adjustment wrenches from the importer. So far it's crickets so I'm not super impressed. I'll give it another day or two.

Now that the serious posting is done, I can say that with the Nitrons on, that car will be loaded like freight train, you'll be flying like an aeroplane.  I don't think you'll ever get enough!

Your Axl's thank you for the Rose(y) upgrade.

Adjusters are an easy problem to solve. I've got adjustable ones, DIY ones, laser-cut custom ones - and much of the time, I end up using my hands.

You'll need to log in to post.
