I bid on a TR3B last night and lost in the last few seconds. This morning I get an email offering a second chance. Is this legit or a scam? Something seems tiny bit suspicious. When I go to Ebay and log in, I don't have any messages there.

I'd contact the seller directly, if there was really a "second chance", he/she'd know about it.

Sounds like bunk to me.

With all the fake bidders on ebay, I've made quite a number of 2nd place and 3rd place offers. Always done through e-bay, not outside it.

I did send the seller a message through ebay. The email looked pretty legit, but something set off my spidey senses. There was a direct email address to a gmail account that has canada in the address. The car is in Indiana.

I bid $2952. The winner got it for a 50 advance at $3002. He has a 3400+ bid history with 100% feedback, and he backs out of a $3,000 TR3B??? Doesn't seem right or someone was shill bidding.

Datsun 1500. The email said the high bidder did not complete the transaction.

THE EBAY LISTING said: Deposit of US $150.00 within 48 hours of auction close. Full payment required within 7 days of auction close.

RUN AWAY FROM THIS LISTING. funny chit is going on.

IT COULD be that he had another account bidding the price to push max bids to their tops, then deleting the bids, then a third account to bid just below your highest.. but messed up. for all you know he just bought his own car. (I am always weary of shenanigans)

I did email the guy through ebay. No response yet. I am seeing no second chance offer in my ebay messages where one should be.

If there is no copy of the message on ebay itself it is a scam... So reply to the message and tell them that your rich uncle that owned a Nigerian bank just died and if they give you their bank account number you will transfer money to them.

as easy as it is to create /use an account, I have always assumed it's people bidding up thier own item to squeeze every last penny out of you like others have already suggested. one time I got a "second chance" on some brake calipers but they wanted me to pay more than my max bid for them still. . . . idiots. even I aint that dumb

I toyed around with emailing him and seeing where it would go. I wonder how he had my email address, user ID and exact name on my account?

I wouldn't immediately discount it- I got the DeLorean because I was the third-highest bidder and the top two didn't go through with the transaction. I can't remember whether or not the message showed up in my eBay messaging or not, but it did include my email and user ID, which is what they tend to say is what you should look for that an email is legit.

I was skeptical, but the seller had included their phone number so I called him up and then went up and actually looked at the car before commiting fully to the purchase. I don't see any real harm in replying (through eBay if you can) and finding out what's up. They shouldn't be asking you to pay any more than your max bid.

I've gotten a few things through Ebay Second Chance. I'd wait and see what the seller says.

I recently discovered tha eBay no longer allows you to include an email address in the body of your message because they're trying to cut down on side deals. All email must go through them.

Wow... predictive scamming. That's a bizarre coincidence. Seems like a decent start of a project for the money, though.

Email the seller again and ask why the previous perfect score guy flaked

There is a message attached to the ebay message that states the buyer made the deposit and failed to make contact or complete the transaction in the alloted time. The offer shows up as a Buy it Now at the price I bid.

It's a very good price based on my experience. It appears much of the body work has been done and it includes new floor pans and sills that are not installed. It has a new piston kit, although it is not the correct size for a TR3B. Frame and suspension has been done.

Don't be extra afraid, there are so many people that flake out when it comes time to put the money down. There most likely isn't shill bidding going on. If you are happy with the price take it. Just be smart and don't start sending cash via the post office or something.

You'll need to log in to post.
