Yeah - it's so friendly even going fast. Like Keith says - it's a miata, turned up to 11. I see a lot of ghetto-cets (hacked miatas) and most of them don't have a decent cage or tie points. With real Exocets (or good cages)  the stiffness of the chassis is absurd - so little flex.

I’d put a 1.6 Exocet at about 1475 wet.

Huh - I always assumed it was closer to 1600lbs, but I was looking at builds with 1.8s (mine still even has the 1.6 diff)

Our turbo 1.8 car was 1550 lbs wet. A visous 1.6 diff is 16 lbs lighter than a 1.8 Torsen.

Mine has steel floors and a the full race chassis though - Wasn't yours a sport with al floors?

Yes, I was assuming alloy floored Sport. I'll bet the weight difference  between the two can be found in Warren's big Exocet thread, and it's possible the current Sport frame is slightly heavier than our very early US unit. We didn't do anything extreme for weight savings.

I need to get it on scales to corner balance it anywho - I run an 8 gallon fuelcell, super light battery, very light wheel/tire package, etc. I hope it's on the low end of 1500, but we'll see!

Good deal, attempting to tune the chassis on old tires is nearly useless. I say nearly useless because tuning a chassis with junk tires will teach you not to ever do it again.

As for Mr Pobst he probably wasn't real fond of some guy he doesn't know in a car made out of scaffolding crowing him.

As for scaling the car you could probably work out the ride heights from a Miata and use those as a ball park. When I do this on a car I mostly worry about the front to rear difference, it's far from perfect but will get it in the ballpark.

Now as for hooligan tales; on Spring Mountain Motorsports 3.4 mile layout you can hustle the Exocet through the esses (turn 9 - 11) and into a the triple apex from 11-13 but you arrive at the 90 right at the end of the section to fast to get the car slowed down to fully make the apex. In most production cars you have to lift a little early to avoid running wide at the apex but in the Exocet you can slide the car as you turn in to scrub the last 1/2 a mile an hour and skim the inside front over the curbing. It's glorious fun.

My buddy runs his car in the advanced group so when I drive it I end up running it in the intermediate group and pretty much lapping everyone. I've also driven the car at local autocross and finshed 2nd overall (it's not possible to beat the shifter karts) if I were consolidating my 2 races cars down to one an Exocet would be top of my list.

In reply to Tom1200 :

Ha! It seriously is a bag of laughs. What flavor of Exocet does your buddy run? This was less a test and tune day, and more of a "does it go boom" day. The tired old motor gave up what I suspect is the head gasket though otherwise was an absolute trooper. The wind was absurd, and the base set-up was exactly what I wanted (minus the funky town, tire lockup) - it actually drove like my ZX-2 (turned up 1000%) so easy to throttle stear! Tons of room for improvement, but I can play with it over time.

And Mr Pobst knows Exocets, he's driven his fair share (Atlanta based company, Atlanta based dude), it was a serious "lemme call you a wambalance" moment. We were at maybe 3/10 speed, barely going 60ish (otherwise he would've dusted me and never saw me again[until he passed me again]). We all got a solid chuckle out of it. My friend, who's also ironically a pro instructor and has raced professional, shook his had and said "racecar drivers....."

And yes, between the me whining about his whining and the racecar driver complaining about racecar drivers, we've reached the irony threshold for a single post.

wink I redesigned the order fulfillment structure of the whole freakin' company last year as well as the physical warehouse and the inventory control sysem to improve time to shipment. Pretty much cut the company down the middle and put it back together. I'm glad it works!

Although I suspect those Hawk pads didn't come in one of our boxes. Someone else gets that credit.

It worked! The pads are from elsewhere, just the matching ones to the front as recommended. I have a little big brake kit in my head for next season.... Gotta get the stupid thing running again...

Not sure which model my buddy has I believe it's a sport, he's had it for several years. He's recently added a supercharger but I haven't had a chance to drive it since that was added.

Cool! I'm going to do something similar - i.e. keep it NA for a season or two and then consider either turbo-fun or super-fun. For now just hoping to get a fresh 1.6 in it....

Where did you find one? The Houston one that popped up on my other search? I did find a race seat and 5 point harness (which I was searching for) close by. smiley
