Great writeup, looks like a great time.

The cars look a lot like the "winter beaters" we used to build when I lived in WI. But a step further.

Gambler events are highly local/regional and are what people make of them. They're not everyone's bag and that's ok. The Texas event last year had a good crowd as far as I could tell and people had a good safe time.

I'm not sure who's going this year. I could bring my daily Subaru as it's a legit $500 car or I could paper plate slammo's Mustang. Lots of options. I would bet that slammo will be there again as long as the schedule works, I'll check in with him.

We are considering Arkansas Gambler in September and if my health will hold out bring c4 2016 Challenge car to 2019 Challenge.  Ambitious? Sure but  who knows?

This was an entry in 2015 Detroit gambler...

But here is our version so precedent has been set

I'll be at the Texas gambler as long as I can make my schedule work.  The Mustang was bought to be a gambler so it may get to fulfill its destiny close to home.

I've convinced my brother to join me on the next Arkansas one, and this post ended up bringing it to my attention. It's sad to see they have done 3 not too far from me and I missed out on every one.

What’s the thing that looks like it started life as some sort of crazy van or bus?  That thing is awesome.

Looks like a smaller version of a mud pontoon like this. The "why" of a mud pontoon is so a dozen people can drink beer in the mud, as far as I can tell.

I've never seen a build for one, but all of the ones I've seen on video have been surprisingly agile and well behaved in places even the trucks they're built from get stuck.

Seth, great job on the article send with all the pictures. It looks and sounds like a blast, and I'm now debating the Detroit gamble cause it's semi close and just looks so fun.

Looks like a palm beach county swamp buggy.

The Arkansas gambler is wild.  Excellent scenery and roads too.  10/10 would recommend.

Hopefully they post up dates for the next one soon. I’m ready to get it put on the calendar.

Checked my calendar and I need to be somewhere else on that Monday, so I'm not sure if I can make the whole 2019 event. A lot of it depends on where it actually starts. That bug makes me want to attend. Badly.

Damn. Wrong weekend. I'll have to look for one in CO maybe. I've got a customer event at the IndyCar event at COTA that weekend.

Questions:

1)  Where is the list of gambler events?  I sure as hell can't find one.

2) What is the demographic like?  That could be a big deterrent for me.  Is it as redneck as it sounds/appears in photos?

Gambler is more of a concept than it is an organization.  It is certainly not a sanctioning body.  Each event is independent.  Expect each to have a different vibe.

If my memory serves correct, the first event was out West in Oregon and largely done in "the woods."  From there, mimic events sprung up.  I know there is a Detroit Gambler 500.  It starts in the urban center of Detroit and some of the "challenges" include jumping railroad tracks on nearly abandoned roads in the central city.  From there they drive a couple hours or more north to real, state maintained off-road routes.

I've only been to one, but I'd say that everyone involved becomes slightly more redneck because of the event.

Most of what I have learned is either from This thread, or from Facebook. With a simple search on FB, I found several within a couple hundred miles of me. Each one seems to be pretty different. From there, I subscribed to a couple and as time progresses, I'll figure out where and when I'll fit in.

Do we need a GRM Gambler Rally?

...and I am enjoying your Baja Bug rehab.

Edit, to keep from sidetracking with more posts:

I’ve got some in laws in Westville, and some other close relatives near OKC.

I was just in Westville Saturday. It's by the eastern tip of the star on my map. Hopefully we can get together at the next Gamblin' the Ozarks.
