Don't get too excited. It's just another Tilke designed cookie cutter track. It's the Sudschliefe not the Nordschliefe.
It's also, possibly the last F1 race at the 'ring until 2016. The goverment, so I read, will no longer provide support monies to hold it there until 2016.
I wonder if RedBull is/has thought of buying the circuit.

Red Bull just bought the A1 ring. It is now the Red Bull ring.
Watching practice, and Team Lotus/Ranault (the team with the green-colored cars, as compared to the other "louts" team has Caterham sponsorship plasterd on the side pods! A one-off for the German GP?. I've never seen it on their cars before.

Becasue they bought Caterham a few months back.
They had Caterham sponsorship at the British Grand Prix as well. They also got GE sponsorship for the Brit grand prix onward.

Watching qualifying, the Red Bull advantage seems to have evaporated at this time.
Not that they are slow but the advantage seems to have been negated.

Well, Red Bull got pole; and much has been said about the temperature sensitivity about the Pirelli tires, and how they have benn inconsistent from one batch to another. So, Mark may be too used to last year's Bridgestones, and is having problems. There's also the inter-team competition between cars and crews to consider.
Should be an excellent race tomorrow.

Would you have thought differently if Di Resta had speared Hamilton. Instead there were at least two drivers who were fortunate that one had a better reaction than the other.
The DT may have been harsh but that doesn't mean it wasn't deserved.
yeh ... some of the ( maybe all ) "great" drivers seem to think they should be allowed to do anything they want to on track and everyone else needs to get out of there way...
that was a truly STUPID move on Hamilton's part... should have waited for clear track and then resumed...
if I tried something like that, not only would I get a drive through.... there would be some officials there to take me out of the car and escort me out of the facility ....

No, not stupid- he was fighting for the lead, and it happens all the time.
What was stupid was the spin. And then McLaren's rather poor management of his strategy for the rest of the race. He should have been able to win the race.
Great job by Button to manage his race- just 3 stops total, and able to control the race on what was apparently the slower tire...
Interesting to see Red Bull going off, but I expect that this championship will be much like Button/Brawn, where they jumped out to a massive lead, and then did enough to finish and win.
He was sitting on the track ANYWAYS!!! Should he have sat there and been speared? Or would you have said that was his fault for sitting in the middle of the track waiting to get hit?
Once again... Hamilton proves he is the awesome in the wet and probably best passer in F1. He is also the guy most likely to take one too many risks. If he sees a chance - he always takes it - and often to his detriment. Sometimes you have to think before you act.
Button the other hand... when he is done with F1 can go on to greatness in sports car endurance racing. Smart decisions, risk when he needs to, lets it go when he doesn't and really soft on the hardware. Those extra 2 laps he got out of the soft rubber over Vettel made all the difference if the rain held off... and it did.

A sitting object is much easier to miss than a moving object.
You're having far more difficulty in understanding this than the man who was actually penalized.

yes stupid... the way he tried it.... driving the wrong way on the race track is only marginally acceptable when no cars are coming.... there were at least 2 that he nearly wrecked ....
what happens in the first corner is stupid also.... what's the old saying ? something to the effect .... that to win the race you first must finish the race....

yes stupid to risk his and the back markers lives with the stunt he pulled... what part of back markers don't you understand... they tend to pull over and get out of the way of the cars they aren't racing against

by sitting still the other drivers know where he is.... much easier to dodge him.... if he's moving ( especially towards them ) .....

No lives were risked- nobody even hit anyone, so lets not take this into a realm that was quite far from reality. Back markers should not change the outcome of the race, and since one had a risk that was BS, it did. That's bs.
How could he not be fighting for the lead? He was barely passed by Button and kept Vettel behind him. So if you spin in the middle of the track (and he WAS in the middle regardless of how he got out of it, so he HAD to do something) then you should just punt and give up?

Did you watch the Conti Tire Challenge race yesterday? The one where somebody spun, and was sitting on the track, and promptly got hit by two other cars? If my engine is running, I'm getting the hell out of there instead of sitting sideways on the track at the exit of a corner.

The reality is that the race stewards and Hamilton all recognized his move as worthy of a penalty.
WE (on the GRM boards) don't have to agree, but all the controversy is eminating from online discussions, not from those who break or enforce the rules.

I watched that race and I'll put the two situations at (very different) levels.
First, situational awareness - where Hamilton had a clear field of view and could see oncoming traffic. He either chose to ignore those four cars, or wasn't paying enough attention to follow proper procedure. One choice is not better than the other.
Second, I'm not going to diminish the racecraft of those who who compete in the Conti Challenge, but it's hard to envision them as potential contenders for a seat in F1.
