All this and no "The Love Bug?" Yes I know it from Dizzyknee, and it's for kids, but its not that bad. Plus, have you looked closely at the other cars Herbie races against? Pure sports car porn. And the great David Tomlinson as Thorndyke.

Tennessee Steinmetz (Buddy Hakett): "Jim, it's happening right under our noses and we can't see it. We take machines and we stuff 'em with information until they're smarter than we are. Take a car. Most guys spread more love and time and money on their car in a week than they do on their wife and kids in a year. Pretty soon, you know what? The machine starts to think it is somebody."

That's a lot of truth from a Disney movie.

Speaking of kids movies, I was extremely impressed with "Cars". I had borrowed it from a friend and was not expecting very much, but it was a great film filled with some outstanding guest stars, real racers, and real race moments inserted. My friend was not an automotive fan at all and was really surprised when I told her that a lot of the characters, cars, and scenes were based on reality.

Gumball ralley, if you have not seen it, best car chase in SF has to be "What's up Doc?". Death Proof covers all of the late 60's early 70's movies. 5th element covers everything else.(this is an edit) Thanks for the Blues Brothers reminder

Back when I was an SCCA corner worker, I'd made the acquaintance of Linda Sharp.

By the time DoT came out, the IMSA Kelly Girl series had ended, and she'd gone to run the NASCAR 2nd tier series (IIRC, sponsored by Busch at the time). She had also started writing a column for the auto section of the Atlanta newspaper, and had gone to see the film at her editor's request. I ran into her in the paddock at Roebling not long after that (she was coaching for someone), and asked her about the movie.

"Not even NASCAR would let people hit each other that much.." was her comment.

As much as I wanted to like "Death Proof" I came away disappointed in both the film and the car chase. Too long, nothing much new done, and an embarrassingly dumb story. The blond NZ stunt girl is pretty hot though.

Fix the cigarette lighter.

I'll revive this thread. I watched Chernaya Molniya (Black Lightning) last night. It's a Russian copy of Spider Man and the Green Hornet, except the black beauty is a Volga.

Know of any other offbeat car movies?

Did anyone mention the GTO in "My Science Project?" Not a car movie, but a cool car.

Its a documentary but "Love the Beast" (the Eric Bana/FordFalcon piece) does it for me. I see it as the litmus test for a true car guy, if you watch the first 20min of that movie and do not completely relate with Bana (not the money/movie star lifestyle part of course) then you definitely do not have the "disease" as I like to call it

Also not a car flick but if Faster (motogp documentary) doesn't make you want to go race something then you have no soul...
