yeah Javelin this one is for you
All GTO, all accessories work
14" cut out of the wheelbase
Seen at the car show Patriot Field in Boston
Built by owner as his daily, freaking nice car
Attention to detail was very impressive, headrests, dash, wheels everything was rebadged as AMX.
The workmanship was excellent
Beautiful car, but what was the purpose of hacking 14" from the wheelbase???
I don't understand, and don't want to understand.
Complete waste of a cool car.
wait, 14" hacked out of the GTO wheelbase right?
i like everything except the ride height and wheels. im not such a fan of newer style wheels on old cars.
mndsm wrote: Yeah, the ride height is a mess- HOWEVER- the execution overall is incredible.
Yep... The stance sucks... The wheels suck...
I no longer care how shiny anyone can make a car... I always had a soft-spot for these cars, and this one makes me vaguely sad.
Some of those pics make it look like he shortened the AMX, too. If he did, turn Chuck Norris upside down. BOO. If he just shortened the GTO to make it fit an original AMX, then, OK, 7/10 for idea and 10/10 for effort.
GTO was a roll over write off, body trashed, I saw the pics, probably a fatal in reality.
AMX body not altered
14" is the difference in the wheelbase of a GTO to an AMX for those who had trouble figuring that out. (Insert Homer D'oh here)

Nobody cut up a javelin to make the AMX....both designs existed as concept cars in 1966. Originally, the two seat prototype was the AMX and the one with the back seat was called the AMX II. The one with the back seat came to market first, but the name was changed to javelin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AMC_Javelin#Development
I like the hood of the 1969 AMX
Other than being a wee bit too high, I'd call that good.
Can you weenies quit whining about every wheel on every car in the world? Not everybody likes your wheels either. Yes, they are factory looking wheels. I think that's the point.
I think it's sitting too high because the track is too wide, and the wheel arch lips are on top of the wheels, not outside of them.
That made me nauseous. While the craftsmanship may indeed be exquisite, as a die-hard AMC fan, it's nothing short of a kick to the nuts to see a beautiful 2-seat AMX bastardized like that.
The AMX was a rusted out hulk, it would have been crushed
Wow, you guys are being picky as hell on this, that car was fantastic, I didn't prefer the rims but otherwise it was a great job building a sweet ride out of two wrecks.
Get over yourselves
Faster, better handling, GTO ergonomic, reat looking craftsmanship . . . Awesome sauce in my book!!
The owner looks he is having a ball showing it off, look at that smile.
Did you notice the valve covers, the rear 1/4 badges (LS2), the wheel centers.
The attention to detail is great.
Even the body color matches the gauges

I will respectfully assume that if the AMX "was a rusted hulk", and was restored to the condition that the images seem to indicate, then it would also have been at least just as restorable as an AMC powered resto-rod/pro-touring etc. car. I have disdain with great prejudice for "cross-bread" muscle cars.
Beyond that, we can agree to disagree.
Haters gonna hate. I saw it in the metal, and it was nothing short of amazing! Everything GTO related from the factory worked in an AMC wrapper. You all are just jealous. Steve nailed the awesome sauce on this find, at the show. Among thousands of cars this may have been the coolest one there.
