My wife says some unintentionally hilarious stuff. Challenge hot tub attendees can attest, if they can remember (JFK, anyone?).
So anyway, I was asking her opinion on GTS style headlights, as I've been considering them for my 944. I showed her the pic in the latest GRM, and this is how the convo went:
Me: What do you think of these headlights? I was thinking about a set for the 944.
Her: I don't like them at all.
Me: Why not?
Her: It looks like someone just cut holes in the car and stuck headlights there. And it looks way too '80s.
Me: The whole car looks '80s! I figured these would look more modern. The pop-up headlight is very '80s. Cars generally don't have those at all anymore!
Her: That's because cars are boring and stupid now. That's robot stuff. Everybody wants that.

step one: buy car or parts, do not tell wife
step two: drag said crap home
step three: see how long it takes her to realize.
the 49 plymouth was in the garage for 2 weeks before she realized i bought another car.
You're wife is hilarious. Kinda like my wife, she's very visual and can't see the underlying awesome that we can see.
So yeah, that's my car in the mag and the GTS lights are much lighter than the pop-ups plus they take up less room. Amazed at how much room there is in the engine bay without the headlights and the CIS system.
They do however completely suck for actual light pattern with the square lenses due to the bottom half being cutoff. They are fine for around town where there are street lights, not so much when you're out in the back-country.
There's a reason why I put driving lights in the bumper :)
If you do them, get some good projectors and plan on removing the covers when driving at night away from street lights.

Same here. My wife likes the tail lights on Datsun roadsters because she says they look like space nipples.
Your wife is 100% right. Popup headlights are awesome, 944s are awesome. Part of the reason 944s are awesome is popup headlights.
FD RX-7, C5 Corvette, and NA Miata have popup headlights, it's not just an 80s design. They make the car look interesting since modern cars don't have them anymore.
GTS style headlights in the 944 look cool, but don't work very well. The bottom parts of the buckets block the lower third of the light coming out of the headlights, which causes large dark spots in front of the car...
I occasionally sell off a car part or two. I like to drag the rusty greasy parts out of the basement and leave them on the breakfast bar for a day or two before I can locate a proper shipping box and get them mailed out. Sometimes the wife will amaze me and know what it is, but usually she just has something wise ass to say about it. There has been a greasy tranny crossmember down there for 4 days. I took pictures of it and sent them out to the prospective buyer, but he hasn't gotten back yet. I just sold a steering rack, so I'll replace the crossmember with the steering rack and see if she notices. It will sit there for a couple of days until I can find an appropriate box, and I can dig out from todays 18" of snow.
