I have been rear ended once when reversing. Lady pulled out of her spot just as I had finished backing up and was about to go forward. Cost me some scuffs on the bumper, a piece of plastic trim, and the rear reversing/fog light on that side. My Disco destroyed the corner of her acura, doing over $1700 worth of damage from her not paying attention. The fact that she tried to blame it on me was laughable, but got me thinking.

Today I acted on it. Out came the rear bumper mounted lights and in went four LED reverse lights, a red LED fog, and a seven pin trailer plug. Adding it all up, over 3000 lumens when in reverse. Two Narrow Beam, and two wide should let me see everything behind me and hopefully people behind me will see that I am reversing. I have had people try to scoot in behind me before.

Stock Discovery2 rear lighting.

Colorado owners have been known to put headlight bulbs in place of their reverse lights.

I added a 52 inch light bar wired to the backup lights on the plumbing truck. And 4 4 inch pods.

My truck has a pair of 100 watt 3 inch round floods mounted to the trailer hitch wired to the backups.

Where we live and work, theres no such thing as enough backup lights, but the plumbing truck is close.....

B/U lights should be up where the tail lights.   In front of the other cars driver.

I sunk a pair of the flush mount / flood beam version of these into the rear bumper of the Jeep (mostly because I couldn't see E36 M3 in reverse with the factory 20% tint on the rear window): http://www.myhellalights.com/index.php/products/auxiliary-lamps/led/valuefit-mini-light-bar-6-led/

It does keep people from getting behind me, and I'm sure at least one person has gotten annoyed because they're really bright. Factory reverse lights are in place (higher up) as well, but they're not exactly bright. The LEDs are on a delay relay so they come on about a 1/2 second after the factory lights (to avoid the camera flash effect if you shift through reverse a hair too slowly going in/out of park).

I have a pair of ebay quad-LED lights as reverse lights on the tow rig at the bumper (plus another four up on the rack for trailer/car pit work). It definitely lights up the way :)

That would be nice.. but where I put those LEDs are in the stock reversing lights go.. in the bumper. The only reason the Disco has such high taillights are due to Euro laws regarding the swing open rear door. The disco1's tails were lower, but the spare tyre covered them when the door was open, so for safety's sake, they were moved up into the D pillar in the D2. The non-facelift Disco2 had the rear fog and turnsignals down in the bumper. The facelifted ones like mine have the rear fog and reversing lights there.

Needs to be on a toggle switch to illuminate at will. You know...for reasons.

Looks good, but you seem too have lost some reflector area. I'm pretty sure that's more likely to get you a ticket. Maybe some red reflective film on both sides of the cutout?

I have the Disco1 reflectors that go atop the bumper. They go on today.Just ran out of time before we had to go out.

Seems like a good idea.  I was surprised to find out (several years ago) that reverse lights aren't mandatory to pass inspection in MO.  My Miata had a short somewhere in the reverse light switch that would blow a fuse every time I put it in reverse.  I eventually just clipped the wire rather than change a fuse every time I had to back up.
