Saturday, I brought it home: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/200x-classifieds/fs-stalled-locost-and-mgb-gt/49827/page1/

Getting it home was an adventure all by itself. The trailer wagged the truck badly down every mountain pass. Rain from hell. Paniced drivers parking in the middle of the highway. A breakdown. Parking lot drama from some boys in the hood. Etc. None the less, I got home, many hours later than I expected.

Never have I felt more over my head with an automotive project. What a feeling of "good lord, who am I kidding!"

It's shoved in the shed, I've been printing information. I can ignore it for a while until I feel better about my decision to try this.

One step at a time. I'm envious. Would love to build one. Someday when I'm retired maybe, if we hven't replaced them all with flying cars.

First things first... how did that MGB-GT look?

The B-GT looked perfect for a snorklewacker!

Awesome! And good luck. Also, keep in mind that if you ever give up there's a ready audience to take up your project here. ;-)

Nice! Best of luck with the project. With a Locost there is a million small jobs - best not to think of them all at once but just tackle one at a time.

Foxtrapper, it's time to go on a sabbatical to locostusa.com. They are your best friends now. We'll still be here when you get back

Scratch builts need to be thought of in small bites or you can panic yourself into being another non finisher. My advice is pick a portion of the project and focus on that untill completed and then pick another and so on,it'll seem much less daunting that way.

In reply to chandlerGTi:

It is for the best. I have two projects going on right now that have no end in sight. The garage is at capacity and the mrs is parking outside. Another car, even one that tiny and sexy would be met with ultimatum s. Someday I'll get one of those pretty little things though.

It's set up just how I would set it up. I'm still looking for something along those lines for the summer though.

Very cool to hear that it's staying in the GRM community. I wanted it so bad, but have nowhere to put it since I am moving back to Atlanta.

You going to get a build thread started for it?

Deals like that is what keeps me out of the classifieds. Sounds like a score.

^THIS!

The only thing I can add is:

-Pick realistic goals.

-Pick a budget that wont annoy the wife too much. It sucks when you have to piss the wife off every payday because the budget is more than what she wants to spend. It's a long project, and if she's happy then your chances of finishing are that much better.

Good luck and have fun!

It's amazing how much bigger one of these is when it's yours and your trying to shove it into your shed. What has always seemed quite small at the shows, grows tremendously at home. I thought for sure it was a + model. Nope, book built dimensions.

Been cruising through Locostusa, as well other builds. Gleening what I can. I've registered, but haven't started build thread there yet.

Interesting how much has gone away with regards to Locosts. All sorts of manufacturers are gone. Dead links everywhere on the web. Hadn't realized the passion for them a few years ago was such a flash in the pan. Search through ebay and the like, and you get almost no hits. Ah well. So be it.

Wife is really cool about this. She reminded me to go with baby steps, and that it can sit for a long time whenever I need. It's not like I blew the family budget getting it, all I spent was a bunch of my own mad-money.

Seventy. I guess I'll use that as a random target. Get the car done and driving before I turn 70.

There's the time when things are new and cool. Then it becomes a fad. Finally, the people who REALLY have to do them finally get to them. Pretty clear that you are in part 3.

Have fun with it, and I hope it's as "relaxing" to do as what art should be.

There was never very much Locost stuff on eBay. A bit more on the UK eBay but still not much.

That's exactly how I'm approaching my Europas, with the expectation that when I run out of time/money/skill it can just....wait. That's a completely new concept to me.
