And tomorrow I will be the proud owner of a new-to-me 1985 Mercedes 300SD. I'm sure I'm not going to get great mpg returns on an 80's turbodiesel boat with an engine fromthe 1930's, but I'm looking forward to riding in style and luxury. Experimenting around with modifications should be fun as well. I'll have to drop a line to Bgkast about his VGT set up.

That's all really...I'm excited.

Look at dat beast.

Looks like my old W126. Find some European headlights! Check out superturbodiesel.com for some performance ideas.

I have an extra set of euro headlights Id sell for $175 plus shipping. If you are interested let me know, you may want to save the money for your $2k front suspension rebuild order that you will be making soon though lol.

God, tell me about it. I'm rebuilding a suspension on a 190e currently.

If you can't afford lemforder parts don't even bother too, because unless you are keeping the car less than 6 months you will either use the lemforder parts the first time, or do what I ended up doing and buy the cheaper ones and do the whole job again later.

In other words the cheap junk is just that, and I made the mistake of using it on my 300sd, now it all needs replacing again 3 years later.

I am at the Glue Factory. Third Shift just came in - no Subaru - One Dodge Aspen, but no Subaru.

Eh not exactly. They were fine, nice folks. Weird looking, but fine. Seemed to have basic knowledge of mechanics, as least what it takes to keep it running.

Didn't like when one of them said the Soobie had a blown HG because there were air bubbles in the oil, and kept saying it was coolant and pressing the issue. I know what water in oil looks like, and it looks like ovaltine and not air bubbles (in my experience).

Now why there's air bubbles in the oil, that I don't know.

This I know. I was originally looking for a W123 because of the nice, simple suspension set up. Prices are way too high though, and SD's are right in my range. In my experience, an old MB is still a relatively comfortable ride even with a 30 year old clapped out suspension.

I like those, I ended up with the W124 300D, I like it. My friend named it SAD SAM after I referred to it as the Slow A$$ Diesel and the Slow A$$ Mercedes, but it is really not that bad. I do want to modify the wastegate actuator to get the boost all the time instead of when it wants me to have it.

In reply to Alfa_Sam: The newer diesel MB power plants seem to be a lot peppier than the old 617's. I like the 617 for the mechanical-everything aspect.

Some things must be experienced before the lesson is learned.

Mine is the 602, the 2.5 turbo 5 cylinder, I do like it and it pulls the car well, but after warm (more than an hour of driving) it seems to loose boost, makes it hard to climb hills. I do love the body style of yours, something about the Big Benz just seem timeless.
