Or, what happens when your wife goes away on a week long silent meditation retreat so you can't even call her to give her a heads up on the car you're about to buy.
I actually don't have it home yet, I pick it up on Monday. It's got a rod knock so it's going to be (yet another) project, but shouldn't be too hard. I'm planning on just swapping for another 1zz for now and then once I get bored of it or the swapped engine goes out, upgrading to a 2zz. So I'll be on the prowl for a parts-condition Celica GT-S, Vibe GT, or Matrix XRs with 6-speed. Anyone sees one for $1000 - $1500 give me a shout.

Insert "I see what you did there" meme.
Brilliant!
Replace title with, "Look what's about to follow me home."
Yep, you know it could have gone badly but my wife actually loves it. We have a great marriage. :-)
What, no comments on the 405?
The 405 was stripped out and had a race seat lying in it, too. Thankfully it's not mine.
A Land Rover, Peugeot 405 and a MR2. Interesting storage lot. I love the MR2 - a real shame they never sold them here in Canada but I'll have to import one at some point.
The MR2 is supposed to be at my place around 6pm. I'm like a kid in a candy store.
Enjoy! Are you on spyderchat.com yet? Some decent information there.

Did the 405 have a grey interior? I need a glovebox lid.

Whats' the going price for a MR-S with a rod knock?
I loved those cars.. almost bought one new back in 1999.. but I needed a car with some storage space as it was to be a DD
"a week long silent meditation retreat"
Have a friend who went on one of those halfassed things. Got a margin call from his broker while he was away, no communication, lost EVERYTHING ! ! ! ! Really ! ! ! ! ! !
He's pretty silent about the whole thing, guess that the retreat worked . . .
Pre-congrats! I've always wanted a Spyder with a sequential.
I've always wanted a Peugeot 405 as well... Man, there is a reason why I'm always broke

I've heard nothing but bad about the SMG in the MR-S, mostly about how slow it is to shift.
If I didn't have a 914 .....
So many questions here...
A week long silent meditation retreat? Is that the politically correct lingo for she ain't talkin' to you, or she joined a convent? Or if it's real, how can I get my wife to take one? Or two?
Just how many projects do you have right now? Just make sure you don't stick the wrong engine in the wrong car.

I'm trying to encourage my wife to go into this business. My somewhat conservative business plan would have her hosting approximately fifty of these week long seminars per year.

You realize the flaw in your logic right? She would be the only one talking.

Unlikely. Mine was about that colour, and the interior was tan.
Masterful project-car buying strategy by the OP.
Nothing looks more fun than an MR-S on wide slicks. It just screams "I am made for driving enjoyment only!!!" The polar opposite of the Minivan or CUV.
The MR2 came in just fine. It was then that I realized I've had three cars show up at my current house on the back of a flatbed; my neighbors haven't said a word so hopefully they don't mind the constant influx of projects. They tuck nicely into the garage and long driveway, but getting any of them out again is a pain since the driveway is only one car wide.
@Klayfish, Projects? I have too many, but right now only two of them are not really drivable. Both of those run but make horrifying noises and no power. But mixing them up and putting the 3uz into the MR2 would be pretty nice.
The wifey is talking to me, but she has been on this meditation kick this year. No convent, yet.
@EvanB: The 405 interior is completely stripped, it was / is going to be a Lemons car. I do not believe the glove box lid was still there.
@Pheller: Well, let's say I paid a lot more than I initially hoped, but I should be into it for around $4000 - $4500 once it's fixed. With the eventual 2zz swap I'm sure I'll be into it for a lot more than that.

I don't care. You think I'm hosting something like this at my house? No.
Everything in the engine bay on those are reachable, after you remove the rear bumper...
