I keep having evil thoughts of creating my own Chevette HSR using a Jensen Healey engine. But all my searches come up with parts cars for $2500 or decent drivers...for $2500. Are engine prices that bad? I hate to cut up a perfectly good car for my mad scientist dreams. Especially for over Challenge money.

Some other questions:

  1. Do all Lotus 900 series engines share the same bellhousing pattern?

  2. Does anything else share that pattern?

  3. Does anyone even know if it will fit?

Lessee... All 9xx motors have the same bell housing pattern. "It is said" that the bell housing is the same as the motor block that was used as the source for the 9xx, which would be the Bedford Truck motor. "It is said" that when the motor was still in development, Lotus put it in the delivery truck as a test bed. Of course, Bedford Truck transmissions are not all that common on this side of the pond, may not be that common on the other side anymore, and may not fit your application. Bedford was basically "GM-UK."

You might be able to get a powertrain from a trashed Elite or Eclat. Both used the 9XX motor as well in a front engine longitudinal configuration. For the longest time Elites and Eclats were going for challenge car money. I think the prices are edging up though.
