@ halftrac I'm assuming you're talking about the black one for $2200? Yeah, I figure I'll offer him blue book value ($1500 tops) if he still has it.

And maybe I'll have to hunt for a Supra too!

I figured that was the one you were talking about.

Seriously, if it's as nice as it seems to be, i would offer up to $2000 and be happy about it.

Granted, less is always better, but you probably won't find another that nice.

Blue book doesn't really matter on older, enthusiast cars.

The book on a mint E30 is like $2500.

Try buying a mint E30 for less than $5k.

Hah, yeah, very true. What should I keep an eye out for? I am a relatively experienced mechanic, so I know the obvious stuff, but what model specific stuff should I be aware of? How is the ride in your car with the later mx suspension? I figure if I do go this route I will start with basic maintenance, suspension, wheels/tires, then maybe hunt for an intercooler and get a boost controller. Nothing too crazy (no ricer boosting it to 20 psi craziness)...do you know what the stock boost pressure is?

Stock boost pressure is like 6-7psi i think. It might not even feel like it's a turbo car.

Normal stuff to look for, really.... see if you can check for shaft play in the turbo, look for rust, look for milkshake coolant/oil mixtures. And oil leaks.

It's really just the normal things. I can't think of any chronic failures with these things.

The stock intercooler is plenty for anything the stock or even a t-bird hybrid will do.

Stock turbo is fine to 14psi, and should be pretty entertaining at that level. This will require a chipped ECU, but factory fuel system is more than enough.

My MX6 rides pretty well. But don't do the same setup i did. Either go with the KSports or use 2nd gen Tokico Illuminas with springs of your choice.

Yeah, I know blue book isn't gospel truth, but it's a good bartering position. And most people don't really know what their cars are as far as I have been able to tell, so the enthusiast tax doesn't really apply as it would to an E30 or something like that. But I guess we will see, and hopefully this guy just wants to get rid of it. Unfortunately, I need to sell my 240 first, so I'm not gonna hold my breath on this car.

That's easily rectified, the optional rear seats from the n/a model swap in. They're great cars and for the most part, very well built.

If you can be talked into German cars, and want to put a baby seat in the back, ur-S4/S6 is the way I'd go.

This one for example.

1.8T? If so I'd stay away. They sludge up really easily(Why Hans thought that running an oil line right under the exhaust manifold was a good idea, I dunno). After owning one for 6 years now, the only way I'd buy another one is either A: it was brand new or B: I could pull the valve cover and pan before purchase.

The sludge issue is so bad that VAG issued a recall for all of them.

2.2L Five cylinder. I'd still stay away based on what I recall parts costs being.

Its caged/gutted and has a 3in test pipe/catback, FMIC, MBC, pathinder intake manifold (nearly worthless) and advanced timing a little. At 9-10psi it ran a 13.4@104. I run it at 10-14psi. This car before I owned it did a 12.9 at 14psi with a good boost controller. Don't need a tune for 14psi. But bigger injectors and a tune at 14-18psi would be a riot. But I'm going with a bigger turbo...

For suspension I have s13 rear tien coilovers, and tokico illumina fronts with eibach sport line springs. Need to weld on my s13 front tien coils. I also shortened my steering arms for more angle I also put the KAAZ 2 way LSD from my 240. Thats about it over all really. Minus the cage its super basic and I love it.

Well, I got the news that the 240sx needs more work than I want to put into it, so I promptly put it on Craigslist. I sold it today for more than I bought it for, and I even showed him the bodywork it needs! So since I promised my wife that I won't buy another car until both my cars are sold (280Z and 240sx), I am still just looking. Now that the 240 is sold I can focus my efforts again on selling the Z.
Saw a few other cars that would be cool: an 85 200sx with the CA18et in it, and a 92 Sentra SE-R. I know the Sentra isn't turbo, but I've always liked those and wouldn't mind having one. Anyway, we will see.

@ahutson03--The wheels are 4-lug, 0 offset, 15x7 ARE. I have a 5th one that is an Enkei, and they are identical . They are black with a polished lip. 2 tires are Kumho ECSTA AST, nearly new, and other 2 are old Yokohamas with a little life left. Extra wheel is tireless. Not positive if I am selling, but I will update this post if I decide to sell.
