2019 CX-9 bought new. Nearing 50k miles now, and has needed nothing except oil changes. Good compromise on size, though there are times I wish it was bigger. Overall 27 mpg. Crazy torque out of the 2.5-liter turbo 4. Easily the fastest daily driver I've ever had, but that's not saying much. 
We have a 2015 CX5 2.5L FWD that has only required consumables for the last 8 years and 90k miles. Easy to work on. Great car all around. Fun enough to drive and the perfect car for home ownership. I picked up a hot water heater from home depot the other day in it.
The early manual transmission models only came with 2.0L, so a bit down on power without gaining too much fuel economy. The one to buy is the 2016.5 touring with heated cloth seats. Over the years they have gotten heavy, more luxury and no longer offer FWD. The 2.5L hasn't changed much either (lifetime MPG average in ours is 27). I did drive a new turbo model and wasn't too impressed. They tuned it for low end grunt rather than sporting intentions.

I can say for sure that this is true, but I find it an overwhelming positive in the CX-9 with an automatic transmission. Getting up to speed on interstate on-ramps is a breeze. I don't need to be winding out a high-strung turbo 4 in a bus. I want torque down low, right now, and the CX-9 delivers.
