It's kinda rainy in Great Britain too, but that didn't stop them from designing and driving roadsters.

That is a hilarious bit of snark. Well played.

I know a few SRT owners and it's possible to get 33-34mpg on straight highway, but thats IT. That is a hard ceiling as far as i can tell from not owning one. However, that is just as good as my non-turbo 2.0 sohc neon with taller gears get in real life, so im not saying it's horrible.

SOHC ACR? Or did you swap a 3.94 in?

My SOHC MTX with a 3.55 knocks out an honest 35mpg combined. Usually travel ~400mi per week for work.

Since that blew, I've been driving the ACR. Still getting about 32mpg, including short triple digit blasts on the e-way a few times per week.

I attribute it to merging with ludicrous Detroit traffic and the fact that the SOHC is lacking on low end. I should've swapped a 2.4 in.

Three on SRTForums under $5500. One that is over priced at $3500 had a battery explode (his words) and cause a small fire I didnt look over the damage he says a new battery got it started. You need a log on and a few posts to see the forsale section.

Nothing on neons.org right now I probably see 3 a week around $3500 on the various facebook groups now you are not getting a cherry car for that but it is possible. Spend $6500 and you can get a really nice starting point.

The trick to decent fuel mileage is simple. Keep the vacuum up on the highway. The turbo is so small that any little application of throttle starts to pressurize the intake. The cars are tuned to dump a bunch of fuel as soon as the TIP sees any increase in manifold pressure. This is one of the reasons that the cars are so tolerant of beating and questionable modifications.

The people with broken transmissions are for the most part morons. They buy these "gear extender" things to go with there 80% reduction short shifters (without stops of course because they're $10 more) and they are surprised when the shift forks break. Its a transmission out of a diesel van its not going to shift like a sports car.

I may have missed this but didn't they power windows in the front and manual windows in the rear? Add that to crap interior.

Torquey but meh.

Mazda787b, my neon is a sohc 3.55. It averages 29-32 but has never got over 35 straight highway. My last neon was a sohc 3.94 that never broke 30. But to be honest even though I'm a tech who owns an obd 2 scanner I haven't actually verified that the car actually works right.. hehe

Exactly. And please post links to these running, driving SRT's for $3k. I'm interested!
Random anecdotal data point: I've seen them around here (halfway across the country from you) around $4500, but at that price point the condition is bad enough that it isn't worth it if only because you can get a (insert whatever car) for the same price.

Non-anecdotal evidence: There are 77 miatas on ATL CL for under $7k. The cheapest SRT is a 140k mile ricer at $6800.

Not slamming you. I am saying I think "boneyard" is full of E36 M3. Post three links to those $3500 SRT's and prove me wrong!

For the record, I said $4500. (Yes, I know you realize it. Just putting it out there).

^ They run and drive is that not what you asked for? At no point did I say you could get a perfect srt4 for $3500 nor did I say for your x amount of money you would get cars in comparable condition.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/258527617501774/?fref=ts second post down is a hit but running driving car for $3000. Half way down the page is a cosmetically rough but good driver for $4500.

Someone paid $3500 for this if you can deal with a swap http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f422/98-srt-swap-neon-pa-4000-obo-641767/

http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f422/black-04-w-96k-miles-3500-obo-643605/ Needs a cam sensor seal, intake tube, and, battery

Again if you are seriously looking let me know I have contacts all over the country Ill get you the best deal I can
