I have spent a fair amount of time pondering that car, and what the US equivalent would be. I reckon it’d be a T or A, with a remake of the Curtiss air cooled V-8 aero engine that was also used to set a motorcycle land speed record.
But, I don’t have the time, skills, or money to realize that.

Heh, I've only JUST found out about the Scratch-built hot rod wiki and so far, even it is a little sparse on other suspension setups. I can't really think of an American version either- partially my lack of knowledge, but also because it's an old race car and the closest thing would be a Bonneville racer maybe.
There's other air-cooled engines too; the Tatra 603, a halo car for me, has an air-cooled V8 in the back.

Those integrated headlights are so BOSS.
I spent A TON of time in my late teen years getting into Rodding. I never built anything because I was barely surviving, but I did lots of reading, lots of studying, and daydreaming.
I, like many of you, grew tired of guys trying hard to look like they weren't trying hard. It takes some really odd combinations of parts to stand out anymore.
I've got a friend that just built one. It's an old Chevy truck, with the standard issue road sign floorboard, and faded shop sign on the door etc.
But, it's got a really rowdy aluminum headed stroker small block in it, it's on air ride, and it will lay the frame down on the ground. With 35" mud terrain tires.
Oh, and it has lightning rods from an Olds 442.
I had gotten burned out on them, but his is really unique. I'll see if I can drum up pictures. He's shared it on the E36 M3box Nation group on the Facebook.
But, back to me, I still want a hot rod in the worst way. I have a big soft spot for 49-54 Chevies, and that will be the route I'll take most likely.

I don't feel my POS really qualifies as a rat rod, but maybe some inspiration to be had.
I bought this and a pile of parts from my brother for a song, did new wheel bearings, brakes, exhaust, tires, etc. The body was already calico, so I went with it. I leaned into the rat rod style a bit, with some strategically placed primer, chrome, and just used whatever parts I had, came with it, or were available at the pull a part.
Ok, ok, I did intentionally speed up the rust, and add some questionable vents with the angle grinder. Mostly, I just got it where I could use it.
Funny thing: this thing is a star. Compliments everywhere it goes, thumbs ups, etc.
That never happens with my "nice" builds. The damn thing just makes everybody smile. Must be the Cummins.
Just have fun. Oh yeah, but be safe.
