Pretty sure this was announced at SEMA: Coming Soon: Nexus Rebel LS - Haltech

What are your thoughts on this?  I see some features that aren't standard on the Terminator X (but are on the Max).  They haven't released a price yet so there's that.

Interesting.

Never hurts to have options for a standalone ECU for the LS.

HP Tuners just released something as well. Most of what I heard this week is where is the FT700 laugh

Think the HP Tuners version will have a credit card reader built in?  Maybe they'll charge $5 to start the car?

Maybe fueltech can pull their collective head out of their ass and put real baro compensation in. The O2 can only supply so much information that can be computed.

They are already projected to be holley dominator priced.... with less features.

Pffft o2 correction to full and send it .. the cars I tune with ft only run a few seconds at a time so its really a non issue

I shouldn't have to retune if the da changes 2000' up or down, much less actually changing elevation. I mean even microsquirt has baro compensation iirc.

Dual bank O2, built in PDM, Haltech CAN, built in 4 bar MAP, 32MB of onboard datalogging, and out of the box DBW control.  That's already an impressive list of pros over the Terminator X line if they can keep a similar price point. It would be really cool to see 6LXX transmission control in the future on this platform.

I bet that will only happen with an output control box via the can bus. And more likely someone will have to make it work and it will be outside of Haltech themselves.

Doesn't seem to include a handheld display but I wouldn't say that's deal breaker.

At least Haltech CAN is a little more widely used by third party and less locked down than Holley.  That's been one of my biggest gripes with Holley and my TermX Max.

Holley already has a 6L controller...

Yeah but it only took them 4 years, hopefully Haltech will get with the program sooner than that.

I expect HPTuners and their core ECU to have it before Haltech.

I'm all for trying it if the GM box doesn't work on my next LS endeavor.  That said, price is definitely going to be a factor, especially since it does not come with the handheld screen thing Holley includes.  Of Holley competitors, Haltech is probably the first I would try (not really considering HP Tuners a competitor).

If you add the sensor, yes. I don't retune for da, thats what closed loop does. Methanol makes for lazy tuners and ecu makers.

For an ECU "designed from the ground up to suit GM’s popular LS engine platform", it has a bit of a strange featureset. Some particular notes:

1. Powering the injectors and ignition from an internal 25 amp driver is a bit undersized. It's fine for stock ignition, but I have seen a solid state relay rated for 20 amps flake out running a set of IGN-1As at full dwell.

2. Only one wideband? If I were writing the featureset, I'd have put in two onboard controllers for a V8.

3. No VVT? I can understand that this wasn't a popular feature, but if specifically designing a controller for LS engines, I'd throw that in.

This doesn't really look like it was a purpose built ECU specifically designed around the LS to me, although it looks adequate for a lot of builds.

It'll be interesting to see how pricing works out for this and what the quality is on the harness.

I hate built in MAP sensors, as running hoses through a firewall sucks, and most standalone computers are not underhood-friendly.

MS3Pro used to be but I don't know about these newer boxes.

You can always use it as a trigger.

One wide and because turbo.

VVT always gets E36 M3canned.

I heard it's "competitive" because of aud to usd exchange rate.

Im curious when I hopefully see it at PRI. I quickly perused the nexus sw and I'm not exactly impressed.

In reply to Ranger50 :

If turbo is your thing, VVT is incredible for that sort of thing.  It can advance boost onset by 1000-1500rpm depending on the rest of the application.  I've never heard from anybody who'd disabled VVT in some application who re-enabled it and didn't say that they now regretted ever disabling it.

I mean, if you're going to disable VVT, I know you can get intake manifolds and front covers so you can use a Holley carb and a points distributor for a Ford, while we're throwing away items that have a drivability and performance benefit... smiley

I checked this out in person at the show yesterday. Setup for your first start is all done via a paired smartphone, and I heard the price (but not sure I can share it yet). It should be very competitive against the Holley, so I'm thinking of trying one on my 350Z to see how it works in real life.

It may work, but most everyone I see puts in some .600" lift cam and you don't get any room to make vvt work, so it's deleted.

Edit: saw a fb post that says the rebel is 1500 including o2, iat sensor, and harness.

In reply to Ranger50 :

I'll grant that, since it is easier than flycutting all of the pistons for valve clearance.  But for a stock cam/stock pistons/boost to the moon type application, keeping the VVT may be cheaper than buying a loose converter.

More anecdotes that may add up to data: when the VVT in my car died, it made full boost at 4000rpm.  With VVT re-enabled it does it at 2000 or so.  Granted this is in an application with no compression and a big turbo and VVT that probably has a lot more authority so advanced is REALLY advanced and retarded is REALLY retarded, but the typical figure I see is 1000-1500 in other applications.
