My 2024 xlt was scheduled to start build in October but I'm not holding my breath. I don't even want it anymore lol

And Broncos have a $10k market adjustment around here lmao

^Hmm, I might consider taking yours if you don't want it. Pretty sure we spec'd out ours almost identically. I think you didn't get the splash guards and I did but other than that same. Are we allowed to go "Hey I don't want it but I know someone who does?" The dealer would probably be like "No I'm putting it on the floor and marking it up"

I don't think you live close to me though.

Nevermind, that won't work because I have two trade-ins and wouldn't be able to do anything more than 50 miles away with both of them.

I'm in northern VA. I can ask him if I can swap someone in my place. He's a pretty chill dude. Doesn't play games.

Northern VA isn't that bad for me. I used to live there. But the two trade-ins thing is going to make it too hard. Thanks for looking out!

If you want it, you should probably get it.  I just saw how the MSRP on the 2024 version of my 2021 Ram (Tradesman) is now $12,000 higher than it was when I bought mine.  And no, there is no UAW issue, because it was/is made in Mexico . . .  WTF?

Hey, remember when most of the board shat on anyone paying remotely near MSRP?

I think you have that backward. We were making fun of people paying big markups.

IIRC, the 2022 XLs didn't have cruise or power mirrors, either as standard or as available options.

Both those got added as standard features on the 2023 XLs.

I have seen more Mavericks on the road recently. I saw 4 today on my drive home from work. I've also seen more fleet Mavericks too.

I really hope the supply starts to pick up so more of these get in people's hands. I love mine so far. I got 40.4mpg on my 41 mile commute home today.

I see tons of fleet. Party is probably over for fleet Colorados and Rangers when gas mileage is the boss' main concern.

Its kind of the ultimate fleet vehicle for light duty use cases.  Hoepfully there will be some competition in this space soon.

Transit Connect and this Hybrid drivetrain seem like such a natural combination.  These vans are so often used to move volume but really not that much weight.  Add in a people mover version and it would seem like a solid winner.  Could actually be a replacement for the Honda Element.  Could be a NYC taxi cab of choice, etc.

Indeed.  I'm very surprised that hasn't happened yet.  If you could take your entire fleet of HVAC/Cable Technician/Home Repair/Painter/etc. vans from low 20smpg to upper 30s, that would be a no brainer.

Ford is limited on their hybrid battery production capacity. That's why most of the 2023 Maverick orders that weren't produced in 2023 were hybrids. Also, why the ecoboost became the base engine for 2024 and despite planning to add another shift on the Maverick production line, hybrid production numbers for 2024 were expected to be the same as 2023 without considering any potential impacts from the UAW strike.

Connect is being discontinued in the US, along with every other small commercial van.  I think the Connect was the last one standing.  Which is unfortunate, with a hybrid, it would have been a great replacement when my Mazda5 dies.

Im curious what the bottleneck is.  Is it the batteries themselves, or hardware, such as motor controllers and inverters?  How many hybrid battery packs could you make with the batteries from a single mustang Mach e?

Maverick's hybrid battery pack is 1.1kwh. Mustang Mach E is 72-91kwh depending on trim level.

So assuming the cells are the same (there's probably a good argument for them to be different chemistries) you'd get 65-82 Maverick hybrid battery packs per Mach E battery pack.

With the way the Mach E's are apparently not selling, you'd think Ford would be looking for other applications to use the battery cells in.

I guess $25k is considered cheap now.  I work, my wife works, we both earn over 6 figures, own our own home and have no kids in college or heading there - and I STILL can't conceptualize $25k as being remotely cheap.  I guess that's why I haven't been in a showroom in over 10 years and don't plan on going for at least another 10.

Yes.  I'm old.

And how Lightning sales have kind of hit a wall as Ford learns that the Venn Diagram overlap of full-size truck buyers and EV buyers is smaller than they anticipated -- at least the ones who want both in one vehicle.

The article I read was a few months ago and was light on specifics. I would assume along the lines of STM317's post, that they are not interchangeable between the hybrids and the EVs. I also wonder if Ford is even producing them or if they are buying them from a supplier where there are contractual commitments that both limit the number Ford can buy and require Ford to buy a certain number per time period (week, month or year)?

I don't know that this post really intended to say they are cheap, more likely that relative to the current market they are less ridiculous in price. But, that is only my interpretation of somebody else's actual words and intent and I could very well be wrong.

I think it's more about pricing than desire. The cheapest new Lightning you can get is like $50k these days with the short range battery pack. And that's assuming you can actually find and buy a 'Pro' trim, and that the dealer doesn't mark them up to high heaven. The XLT trim that's more readily available to the public is $57k to start.

The customer that is willing to spend $70k+ on a truck is likely to want a brodozer SuperDuty for bragging rights rather than a lowly F150 that can't tow more than 150 miles without recharging. And customer's that might want an EV F150 (fleets, people concerned with reliability and low running costs, etc) probably find the high purchase prices to be a deterrent when you can (at least in theory) get a Maverick hybrid for $25k-ish.

Fleet buyers might also be a little nervous about unpredictable depreciation since Ford has changed prices pretty drastically since the initial release. When the purchase price of a new Lightning fluctuates by thousands of dollars in a matter of months it makes it really difficult to calculate total cost of ownership. A buyer that was first in line might have actually seen appreciation, while a buyer from early 2023 might've taken an instant $10k depreciation hit when Ford cut prices suddenly.
