i have a 95 protege es with a bp1.8, runs like new and just rolled over 140000 miles. im happy with its stock performance but i would like to work with it here soon. from what i can tell, the bp makes about 130hp and 115ft. lbs of torque... i would like to put down 150-175 hp at the crank naturally asperated. sooo... what combination of performance parts would put me in that range with the motor i have? i wouldnt want more then 200 crank horse power in the front wheel drive. i think a solid 160 would be plenty fast. thanks for reading and thanks for your input.
how hard is it to swap a NB generation BP into the front weel drive and will the transmission i have work also? haha thanks again cork heads
The bellhousing are all the same. You'll have to deal with a different intake manifold bolt pattern on the NB engine, the Miata unit probably won't fit. The 01-05 bottom end will give you more compression.
A good intake, a good header, and a good exhaust. More compression, some head porting, and a way to tune it.
Fitting the early intake to the later head is not that hard to do IF you can or know someone who can weld aluminum. I had a friend who had an Escort GT which used the BP engine. He wanted to swap the later head on and give me the assignment of modifying the stock intake to bolt onto the later head. A few aluminum filler rods later he had a stock looking intake that bolted to the later head.
thanks guys hell yeah. my dads a professional fabricator he could do any aluminum welding i would need. so the NB rwd has the same bellhousing and will work with my 95 es 5 speed?
haha sorry i meant to ask my front wheel drive belt housing will fit the rwd NB block? and would a head swap to a NB head on my 95 block be worth while? and what stand alone would you guys recamend looking for? haha sorry for all the questions. seams like the place to get real answers haha thanks
The bellhousings are all the same.
Yes, the later head is better.
Megasquirt is the default answer here.
