That is a scratch one-off build not generally available, this is a discussion about one that is available over the counter.

There's been debate with Stiggy (Mr MEV) before on such points, he gets engineers to design the safety items but to one's eye they don't look as robust as one might like - he would be better off going with the latter to satisfy his clients rather than satisfying theory IMO.

Yeah, you said that, did you need me to make you a coffee?

Sorry about repeating myself. If it makes you happy I can edit my first post to replace that phrase with 'Meh.'
I understand that you're discussing "one that is available over the counter" and that the goal is to make something available to people who don't have the attention span/patience to scratch build the car they want. I still think the exocet is ugly, and personally would rather scratch build a different car than drive that one. That's still true even if it takes much longer to do so.
That's my opinion, though. The important thing about a project car is that the owner is happy with the results. What the rest of the world thinks is pretty low on the priority list.

If he is in fact getting an engineer to design the safety parts than he should look for another, wouldn't be hard to find one that actually knows what they are doing.

The Australian process, by comparison, requires an engineer to go over your chassis design!
That might well be the case in the UK for the manufacturer, too, if you're trying to sell the kit. The SVA in the UK is an attempt to ensure that the builder didn't put together some death trap.
I would trust the exocet's roll bar before I trusted the single hoops the cobras all seem to have

To the folks complaining about the looks of the Exocet, I hear you, and to a certain extent, I see your point. On the other hand, the aesthetics of the Exocet are a compromise; constrained by the original layout & backbone of the Miata. Regarding strength and safety, the Seven served faithfully for years both on the road and on the track with a frame not nearly as strong or protective as the Exocet frame, which was drawn with the benefit of CAD. Obviously, it's easy to look at an Ariel Atom and say "I'd rather have that." Honestly, it's not a fair comparison. A guy with a garage, $10k, and a rusty Miata can spend a few hundred hours and wind up with a reliable, fun and fast tube-framed car. For a lot of us, that is a hard deal not to be very excited about.

You've been here a while, so you're familiar with the forum. Why are you dredging up a thread that's 11 month's old to argue with people? There's no need to stir the pot...

Probably because he read the more recent Exocet thread and then searched ;p? with how often we tell people to search we should not be too hard on those who do

Yeah, I didn't mean to be a jerk.....it is just that the guy has had an account here nearly as long as I have. It seemed like odd behavior for someone with a history on the forum.
[...and since we've now thoroughly resurrected the thread, I'll repeat my "meh" feelings about the exocet's looks. It doesn't matter, though, since I'm not the target market they are trying to reach.]

Hence Exomotive's design competition for the 2014 car's new bodywork.
Note: this is a zombie thread. Recent updates about the Exocet are being discussed at http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/grm-exclusive-reveal-exocet-spec-a/57663/page4/

In reply to JoeyM:
Been away for quite a while. I've been interested in the Exocet, and I figured GRM would be a good souce of info on it, so I came to the forums and did a search for "Exocet." Didn't even notice the date until it was pointed out just how long the thread had been inactive. Not trying to argue or "stir the pot", and I actually agree with those who think the Exocet is not very attractive to look at. I just think the Exocet has alot going for it beyond looks.

And for some reason nderwaters link no worky to the newer thread. This is not the first time I have had trouble finding threads at times

Then again, the new thread has morphed into a Lumina thread. Frikkin Grant.
