My engine didn't sound very healthy at the Rallycross yesterday. Today I pulled it out to see what the issue could be. Any ideas?

Elwood: Oh no.

Jake: What the berkeley was that?

Elwood: The motor. We've thrown a rod.

Jake: Is that serious?

Elwood: Yup.

That's giant hole in the block? That's just additional cooling. All the kids are doing it now.

Just change out your gas for pre-mix and we'll be alright.

Good point. I've been pre-mixing for years and I've never thrown a rod.

Well, except for that Ford I had.

This happened about 15 seconds into the first run. That was the first run the car had done since winning nationals.

Some shaped sheetmetal and some duct tape ought to take care of that.

On a more serious note did the motor coming apart take out the pickup or did the pickup tube come apart causing the problem.

Any idea as to the cause?

No idea what caused it, I'm still working on tearing it down. It was ticking but it sounded like lifter tick and never got worse.

Ummmm, looks like it did at the end! Time for a datsun to replace it?

Well the ticking never got worse up to the point it went bang.

How much for the datsun?

The pickup tube is definitely smashed from the connecting rod.

I texted a friend what happened, and he said "Oh, so it went Kool-Aid man." OH YEAH!

I did find a wrist pin laying on top of the skidplate and what looks like most of a wrist pin clip sitting in the crank pulley.
