I am going to have a custom 2.5" cat-back exhaust bent up for my '96 Civic DX. But I don't know what to do about the muffler because I do not want a fart cannon on the back. I was wondering what people thought. I want something that looks subtle and sounds good.

I had a flowmaster for awhile, 40 series I think, on my 91 Civic. Wasn't bad, needed a resonator though. I had a magnaflow oem type 3" w/ resonator on my 240sx, it sounded pretty good and was quiet when cruising. Both looked pretty well stock.

These were the hot OEM look mufflers on honda-tech back in the glory daze.

I have a real Mugen Twinloop on my EM1, but these are still pretty intriguing--and cheap

or suspiciously cheaper

These days it seems like the "official" relatively subtle Honda exhaust on Honda-Tech is the Apexi World Sport. However, I've wondered if there might be other possibilities that are even quieter, and quite likely cheaper.

The World Sport is a curious beast. I don't understand how it works. It's SOOOOO quiet at idle and cruising, but then at WOT.... HOLY CRAP.

I've heard them on stock B16s, GSRs, and everything in between up to fully built n/a LS Vtecs, and they never cease to amaze.

Like Gamby said, the ES Tuning Oval muffler would be your best bet. I would stay away from ordering from InlineFour, the company in his link. They are not the most gracious when it comes to customer service.

I have a Mugen Twinloop on my EG and I love it, but it is not cheap It is so quiet at idle and really through the whole RPM range. You hear more engine noise than exhaust but I am still contemplating selling it and getting a Spoon N1.

Where can I find resonators? And what is a good resonator?

I've been thinking about the Vibrant Stealth mufflers. They're flat black so they are definetely sublte and they are suposed to be quiet with a good sound.

Here's a link to a place with a good price and free shipping: http://importdpsonline.com/vibrant/vibrant_universal_muffler_streetpower_stealth/1146/i-37097.aspx

How about a Cherry Bomb? I've heard of people on here going to a place like Tractory Supply and getting a tractor muffler for $20 or so..
