I was going to suggest getting the double whammy of both Ryobi's One+ solder station and hot glue gun. The solder station is a hybrid tool (both battery and plug-in), and their hot glue gun gets a lot of great reviews. The station has a temperature control setting that gives you more flexibility.  I've got the station and I love it.
Glad to hear you got it done.

Oh yeah, I did end up ordering some more solder, I had initially ordered leaded solder but after doing some more research I decided against it. what I ended up with was .3 mm lead free flux rosin core solder. That stuff is as thin as a thread and it did the trick for the board side with the 28 gauge wire. I really appreciate all the help and ideas. Super happy with the results.

I always used Antex 18 soldering irons for delicate work.

Too much heat, and the copper pads detach from the circuit board.

I ended up with a $50 green 936 station which is a hakko 936 clone that my local hobby store carries. It worked really well.

Since I had the bike apart for its 6000 mile service I took pics of the finished product.  I am learning that I need to use shrink tubing 2 sizes larger than I believe I should need.
