and fight
I'm watching Cayman S's drop below 30k.... I think I would enjoy driving it more than the Z06, which would just scare the crap out of me. That, and I pawned my gold chains.
No way you can get a cayman for under 20 grand. Once you start focusing on what a performance bargain the z06 is you start not seeing the vette stereotypes anymore. I know cause it's starting to happen to me. And I prefer lightweight japanese cars.
Would kinda like to see where this goes. Corvettes are kinda intriging but not really a Vette guy, don't fall into the compensating old geezer crowd and don't want too. Although my kids call me an old geezer ). I've ridden in Vettes, Z06 included and not sure I want to attempt to harness that power on a autocross course or want to be that tempted on the street. Looked an a Cayman and thought it would suit my needs just right. Besides I have always like Porsche.
Some real world experiences would be nice.. Not stories of 15k Z06's that go 400mph because I got the info from Motortrend... LOL

I'm pretty sure "Rotard" bought a cheap C5 Z06, but I guess that's not entirely relevant...
I'll take the C6 Vette.
While I'm sure the P car would drive well, I don't want to live with the ownership experience of another German Engineered car...
When I test drove the Cayman, the Porsche dealer said the Z06 would mop the floor with it on a track. The interior and the dynamics of the Cayman were fantastic. If I had Jeeves to handle any and all maintenance free of charge, Cayman, otherwise Vette. I asked the dealer if I could see the engine. He said "no" - he'd have to get his senior mechanic and....
WOW.

I was looking at the C6, Cayman S, Elise, etc. The C5 Z06 made more sense as a daily driver and was the most car I could get in the $20-30k price range. As a bonus, it's probably at or near the bottom of its depreciation curve.
The lack of real door handles and such on the C6 turned me off. That said, if I could have found a C6 Z06 for $30k, that's what would be in the garage right now.
I also tried to find a Z4M Coupe or Cayman S, but didn't find any decent ones in the price range.
I think that a base C5 would probably mop the floor with a Cayman S at the track.

Probably true - they are amazingly fast, amazing cars, really. To be honest, I loved the hidden door handles on the C6, but I have not lived with them.

I would still love to have a cayman s or C6. Maybe someday...
this is a hard one.. both have so much to offer in looks, handling, performance...
But having said that.. I will take the Cayman. I perfer mid-engined cars (and mid-engined hatchbacks are really neat) and it is physically smaller than the vette, so probably easier to live with on a day to day basis
Tough choice. I would have to drive a Cayman S first before making a decision. I'm leaning Cayman S, but the Z06 is a lot of car for the money.
Neither.
I'm gonna be honest with myself for once, and say that either of those cars is more than I A: need, and B: can more than likely handle.
What's the point in owning a car with limits higher than I can get to?

These days it's impossible to reach the upper limits of even the cheapest hot hatch on the street. If taken to a track, depending on the track, the Cayman would SHINE!
I wouldn't kick the Z06 out of bed for leaving crumbs, but it wouldn't be my first pick.
I vote for the Cayman. No surprise there...
I considered a C6 Vette for a moment, but that was about it.
I have driven neither - but do know someone who owns & runs both on the track. He's faster in, and likes the Z06 more for that purpose. He's hasn't said it out loud, but I think he ran out of talent in the Cayman S.
Looking from the outside in - the Cayman is the perfect sportscar to me. Right size, right power, right balance. The Vette's a great car, but with all that power and all that tire it sure does mask a lot of driving errors.
Emotional preference: Cayman S. It would really make the g/f happy since she loves them.
Logical preference: Vette. Mainly under the assumption maintainence and track-consumables (except maybe tires) would be cheaper and easier for a DIY'er.
Even for auto-x, look at the classes. The Cayman is in A-Stock (where one won Nationals last year) whereas both Z06 models are in Super Stock (won by an Elise - again).
