Hey All,
I picked up this mystery turbo the other day and can't figure out what it is. Here are the clues:
- Came off what appeared to be a big inline diesel engine (4 or 5 cyl. I think).
- I think the engine had a really big belt driven supercharger upstream of the turbocharger compressor. (I was in a real hurry trying to get the turbo off before the salvage yard closed and didn't have time to investigate)
- Has the marks "A/R.47" and "M-24" on the compressor housing
- "A/R 1.04" on the turbine housing
- Has an internal wastegate with a label on the actuator that reads "22 psi"
- All the flanges are v-band style
I suspect this is a Garrett turbocharger, but can't figure out what model. Any input is appreciated. I also suspect that there are more markings under the fiberglass wrap, but I'd rather not remove it unless necessary.
Here are some pics: PICS
Thanks!
Ok, well I finally figured it out. I'll post up the model later this week in case anyone wants to take a stab at identifying it (just for kicks).

Is it a Garrett out of a late nineties early 00's Ford Powerstroke? Sooooo...what are you planning?
Honestly, no plans yet - it was just a good deal. Not off a Powerstroke.
Detroit Diesel.
You better have a strong motor for that thing with that internal gate, or weld the flapper shut and run external. (My suggestion)
Yep. It's off a Detroit Diesel 50G engine. I found out it probably came off of one of the CNG Atlanta city busses since this particular turbo was only used in CNG 50G applications. The turbo itself is a GTA3576BDL. Haven't been able to track down any compressor maps yet, so I guess that's the next step...

Eh, maps are nice but in the near term, measure the parts of the wheels you can get to. :)
Those sure are some gigantic housings for relatively small looking wheels.
Yeah I noticed that too - kinda strange. I'll probably pull off the compressor housing to take some measurements of the inducer/exducer diameters.
That's somewhat common for OEM things, especially trucks.
The CT26 i run looks HUGE on my motor, everyone makes the face when they see it, but the wheels aren't that large.
