I am looking for a new set of tires for a ’66 Mustang. It currently has 225/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As and that seems to be the only replacement option besides some no name tires or Cooper all seasons. I don’t hate the T/As but would love a true performance tire for the car. It sees a few autocrosses a year but is mainly a summer driver. Am I missing anything in my internet searching or is the 15” tire pretty much dead?
I bought some 225 45 15 ventus2 hankooks from tire rack. They seem pretty sticky but broke first session at Sebring this weekend so didn't really stress test them

A 225/45 would be way too short.
Other than maybe a roundy-round race tire, you can't get a good preformance tire in that size or close to it. Unless you want to go with bigger wheels (17 inch) or very short tires (40-50 series) just live with what you've got. Mickey Thompson makes a white letter tire but its no better that the T/A or Cooper Cobra.
Get the Coopers or BFGs for when you are cruising, and bolt on a set of 16 or 17 inch later model Mustang wheels with sticky tires when you need more grip.
The mentioned H rated Altimax RT43 is probably your best bet. Performance street tires with sidewalls are dead.
Get an extra set of racing steelies and run American Racer Bias Ply racing tires? for ALL THE SPEED.
Although, if you dont want to change tires at an event, you are better off on 17's and possibly 18's if you want to go wider than a 255 width. I am finding few good options in 275/40/17, which I thought would stick around as it was a popular C4 vette and mustang size. 
This is the reason I went to larger diameter wheels on my old car.

This is the same approach I am going to take with my 2nd Gen Firebirds, which originally came with 225/70-15 tires. Cheap Generals on the O.E. wheels and then some as-yet undetermined bigger wheels with more modern tires.
