So I dont like the lawsuit friendly super wide brake-gas pedal spacing on my car currently, and would like to bend a junkyard one about 3/4" closer for more effective heel toeing. I noticed on my hung pedal, between the pivot and cable, there is a decent sized chunk of steel welded to it, what is it's purpose? Would deleting it gain me anything?
I thought this thread was going To be about using a brick for cruise control. Disappoint.
maybe it's there to make the it feel smoother or something like that..
If I had to make a guess, I'd say to dampen vibrations. I've noticed that on some cars, the accelerator pedal vibrates considerably.

To make people ask this very question?
Edit: Sorry I forgot there is a good reason for these. They're to keep the pedal assembly balanced at the hinge, so that the gas pedal doesn't have any motivation to move one way or another under accel/decel.

Noted, I'll leave it alone.

That's cool. I would not have thought of that.
