Turbo Volvo. 740/940, 240 if you can't find one of those. RWD, indestructible, easy to make not slow.

For more haulage space get a wagon. This one was still for sale on here last I checked.

Having rallycrossed a whole heap of RWD cars, I'd buy the best condition thing you can with these as priority (in this order):
-tire choice
-weight
-weight distribution
-differential
-suspension
-power

Brakes don't really matter. Anything can be made higher or lower, ride height wise. I'd rule out stuff with bigger than 16" wheels (newer sports cars) or horrendous weight distribution (Foxbody comes to mind ) unless you just want to have fun without being competitive.

We had a good discussion about rallycross cars for prepared FWD this past fall. There's a fair amount of interesting info in this thread.. I ended up going with a SRT4 despite my voiced misgivings. So far it seems like it will do well, but I've only raced once against a Nationals level competitor.
