So last week I bought a ratty e36 325i to drive through winter, rallycross, and ice race.

The sellers pic on craigslist.

Today at the Lake Sinissippi ice rallycross.

It's stock with 17" studded ice tires. Now I need to figure out if '94's were available with a LSD. I had a lot one wheel drive tire spin every time I got into the throttle. I'll also try unbolting the rear sway bar. I know my old '93 had one.

I hope the wasted suspension holds together a little longer...

The 325i just has an open read end. The is model had an lsd. BTW, how was the ice on Sinissippi today? I was going to run with CWSCC on Dubay, but they cancelled due to not enough ice. I think they require 12" to have an event. Looked at doing the W-A-G event but reports of only 9" with 70 cars didn't make me too comfortable.

My loose guideline is 95 and earlier cars with the winter package (heated seats) have lsd (check the tag though). Was also available as a stand alone option - so no hard and fast rules (my 95 318ti has an lsd - no winter package)

My '93 325i had a LSD with the winter package. An e36 'is' without the winter package (or option) would also have an open rear end. All e30 'is' had the clutch type LSD though.

WAG had 60 cars, so we waited around a lot. Small, tight course. I never got out of 2nd gear.

I tried undoing the sway bars at the last event. They were ceased, so I had to cut the links. The lack of a rear bar helped put down power. I was worried about too much front understeer, so I did the front too.

It appears I should have left the front alone. I will have to buy some front links.

Make sure you beef up the rear suspension a bit before the rallycross season, lest this happen to you:

I know those rust holes well - bottom of the front fender is a water trap - will also get into the structure behind the fender - and the rockers at the jack points - starts getting into the inner rocker structure.

What component previously occupied that semi-goatse?

Rear subframe. Much like the E46 cars, they have issues with ripping out of the floorpan if you really abuse it or let the bushings get too sloppy.

After 3 weekends the rear shock mounts are making a lot of noise. I'm hoping they last until the ice melts. I plan on doing them, shocks/struts, and front control arms this spring when I get some $$$.

Another grassroots build!

Check out that GRM sticker...

So the rear shock mounts and front ball joints are making a lot of noise. A couple weekends ago the RF strut completely blew out. It looked like I had a brake fluid leak with the hydraulic fluid sprayed all over the wheel well. Not sure if I should put bilstein's, kyb's, or something else. Anyone know of moderately priced struts that will handle the abuse?
